It looks as if you were at the wrong port as she was shown as due to be in Portsmouth on the 20th April 2009.

With the 4th terminal not yet open (its due to open in May), and with the three other large cruise ships alongside, Saga decided to divert the "Rose" to Portsmouth.
With Carnival Corp (especially) and RCCL having their weight to throw around, the smaller operators such as Saga and Fred Olsen are having to have "whats left" with the choice of berth & terminal.
Hopefully the situation will improve once the Ocean Terminal is opened.

Her move to Portsmouth was arranged quite some time ago now & has been on SAGA's website ever since, although the map for the cruise still showed Southampton. I was there for the day and she was stunning - I also saw the other three sail by as they departed the Solent.

Always plenty to watch in Portsmouth

Pam

Pam: where did you take your 'Portsmouth' photos from? We had a weekend there last summer, during which we went over to the Isle of Wight and got a picture of Aurora.

We were very impressed with Portsmouth Harbour; here's link to a blog post about our stay there

Where do the cruise ships berth in Portsmouth? - presumably, somewhere in Royal Navy territory?

Nice report & lovely photo Tom. Yes Portsmouth Waterfront is so much better than Southampton's, but perhaps not so the rest of the city. There are certainly more things to see and do, with nice gardens etc to wander.

The photo of SAGA ROSE was taken from one of the harbour tours which run from Gunwharf Quay just along from the Spinnaker Tower [or from the Historic Dockyard across from Warrior]. Cruise ships berth at the Ferry Terminal which is way over the other side of the harbour past all the warships. It is the first turn off the motorway as you enter Portsmouth and one can see the ferries/cruise ships alongside from the bypass. See map - SAGA ROSE was where there is a circled 2 at the ferry port top right. Gunwharf near the bottom middle.

The other photos, video clip and those yet to be posted of SAGA ROSE departing were taken from the Round Tower at the harbour entrance; which you have been to [Portsmouth Harbour Entrance is according to them, one of the busiest in the world. Debatable I expect, but there is always some vessel going in or out].

As an aside there are so many Naval vessels currently in Portsmouth one wonders if there are any at sea anywhere All 3 Aircraft Carriers for starters - if you like warships.

Pam

A great photo of a wonderful ship. The Rose that is, although the others are great too. Thanks Pam.

I am very much looking forward to our planned cruise around Ireland on the Rose in September. Catching her before she retires was the only thing that I was looking forward to about turning fifty!!!

Graham.

I'm expecting her in Toulon on Wednesday. And if I'm lucky I may even be able to take shots of her interiors (we'll see this).

Hard to believe this stunning ship will no longer exist in less than a year.
