Disney Cruises announce two new cruise ships
June 13, 6:38 PM ·

Disney Announces names of two new ships
At the 2009 Annual Meeting of Shareholders of The Walt Disney Company, Disney announced the names of the company’s two new cruise ships.
“Last week, steel cutting began on our next two Disney cruise ships. Today I’m pleased to announce their names,” said Robert A. Iger, Disney president and CEO. “The Disney Dream will set sail in 2011, while the Disney Fantasy will hit the high seas in 2012.”
Similar to the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, the names were chosen to celebrate Disney’s unique heritage of creating enchanting places and stories where dreams really do come true.
“The names are very telling of our brand and are part of our history,” said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line and New Vacation Operations. “Disney is known for making dreams come true, and for creating worlds of fantasy that go beyond the imagination. The names are a natural choice for our ships.”

I think that the news was leaked a long time ago?

Anyway, the names are in keeping with the Disney 'brand'. We couldn’t really expect 'Disney Equinox' of 'Disney Oasis' could we?

So there will be the Carnival Dream and the Disney Dream both sailing out of Port Canaveral? I guess it's RCI's turn to have a Dream of the Seas, a Fantasy of the Seas, maybe a Magic of the Seas, or a Wonder of the Seas, perhaps a Spirit of the Seas.....actually those names don't sound too bad!!

You know how people call Travel Agents, get rates, and book a cruise, and no one ever refers to a ship by its proper full name? I'm just waiting on the day somebody books the wrong 'Dream' and it becomes a Nightmare.

When I sailed on LIBERTY OF THE SEAS last month, there were only two ships in Miami that day. LIBERTY OF THE SEAS and CARNIVAL LIBERTY. Pretty pathetic that these companies can't be more original with their ship names.

That's probably because they made the announcement back in March.
