VANCOUVER — Disney Cruise Lines will introduce departures from Vancouver to Alaska, according to reports.

Disney is expected to announce details of the new venture at a press conference Friday morning.

The cruise line dedicated to family vacations, features a Peter Pan Neverland activity centre, a nursery for infants, live shows such as Toy Story: The Musical, 3-D cinemas and a "Pirates in the Caribbean" dinner and deck party.

Disney's two cruise ships, Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, weigh 83,000 tonnes, and measure 964 feet long.

Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy cruise ships, which are currently under construction, will weigh 128,000 tonnes, with 1,250 staterooms.

Well that certainly is very good news for Vancouver, who through no fault of their own, lost business in the Alaska cutbacks and Seattle homebasings announced earlier this year. I hope they do put two ships there, one doing roundtrips and the other NB/SB to Seward.

Frequently cruise lines examine potential routes but not all the inquiries lead to voyages!!
Disney is one that has been in discussions with local authorities, and has been checking the Inside Passage route on the east side of Vancouver Island, as well as harbours such as Victoria which is not on the route north from Vancover, but is on the repositioning leg up from California. They also checked on Seattle to Vancouver and Seattle to Alaska via the Inside Passage rather than out on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Obviously they are serious enough to examine many variables. I have heard that tentative docking space has also been reserved.
Other lines that have checked things out, are Cunard and Costa. We have had Fred Olsen and P & O stop by on occasion too. Any thing new would be of interest to ship buffs!!

Has Cunard ever done cruises to Alaska? I seem to remember something about a Cunard ship there but I am not certain.

Yes the Cunard Princess did Alaska sailings and I thin he Sagafjord did with Cunard too. Also maybe the Cunard Crown Dynasty did a short stint there in Cunard colors?

i looked at the disney web site and the rout show's the ship heading out to the west coast of vancouver island....maybe this is just preliminary and they are planning on actually cruising through seymour narrow's and northern B.C.'s inside passage plus it look's like they were unable to get space in glacier bay and cruising tracy arm instead....jeff

A new ship for us to watch, and another 100,000 visitors to Vancouver, will help our struggling tourism industry.... If American citizens reading this site have not yet obtained passports, do so now and encourage your family and friends to do the same - it's time to re-discover the world...or at least Canada!

Cant wait to see the pricing. Always thought Disney was a bit overpriced.
