Since NCL is growing at such a rapid pace nowadays, do you think that there would be any transfer of their older tonnage to Star?

Well NCL don't really have any "older" tonnage left.

As for new ships - no chance given their fianacial performance.

What about the Norwegian Sky? Surely, that to them must be 'older tonnage'. Or maybe it is a matter of time before the ship is transferred. Besides, Star isn't doing too bad according to their financial report...

"Norwegian Sky" is owned by Star Cruises and only chartered to NCL, for what it's worth.

So if the charter ends, where would the ship possibly go to? Would it be Star or some other company?

Star doesn't want NORWEGIAN SKY. She's for sale.

Star also owns NORWEGIAN DREAM, which is laid up and for sale.

NCL seems to be happy with NORWEGIAN SKY for the time being as it recently (end of August)extended its charter until 2012.

Doubtful Star will be looking into expanding their current fleet. They are pretty much a casino-boat operation now. As Doug said, they own the NORWEGIAN DREAM and NORWEGIAN SKY, but have no interest in operating them.

I think it would be great to see the SuperStar Virgo join the NCL fleet with her sister Norwegian Spirit (former SuperStar Leo).

I don't think they would do that, since they recently invested a lot of money on an onboard water slide. I think that they would not transfer or sell any ships in their fleet since the 2011 itineraries are already out. Furthermore, I hope the SuperStar Virgo should stay in the Star Cruises fleet.

Genting HK signs US$600 million syndicated loan agreement

Does this mean that there is a possibility of a new transfer/new build for Star Cruises?

They still have the Noregian Dream in the Greek port of Syros that nobody seems to want to buy.

Seems funny that they are borrowing money when they still have this asset to get rid off.

Perhaps she will head for Alang !

You forget that Genting (Star) is but one of three investors in NCL now and with the IPO coming up it will have even less say in NCL's future.

So you can cross off any "transfers" in the future between the companies. NCL has the one ship on charter and it likely that charter will end at some point in the future sending the ship back to Genting.

Genting has done such a poor job of marketing its ships and is facing increased competition from the land based casinos so it seems unlikely they will add tonnage. As someone said they already have tonnage sitting in Greece with a big price tag and while lots of people have kicked the tires so to speak no one is taking it.

So in the future, if they find the Norwegian Star "old", then are they going to just sell it to some other company but not Star?

They can sell but it would involved an actual exchange of money now because it is two separate companies. I would suspect when NCL took the Leo they did not have to pay the parent company for the ship immediately. NCL was cash strapped and Star owned both lines .... now they are separate companies with separate shareholders. Assets could be shifted because the relationships exist but the different shareholders would expect fair payment for assets.

So is there any hope that the Norwegian Star or Norwegian Sky would end up in the Star Cruises fleet? They are doing quite well now and have the SUPERSTAR LIBRA (ex. Norwegian Sea) taking on a new route.

Well, Genting owns SKY so if they want her they certainly can have her.

I don't know why NCL would want to give up STAR.

Most cruise lines get rid of their older ships once many newer vessels enter their fleet. So, maybe NCL would get rid of SUN, STAR, DAWN and maybe SPIRIT in the future?

In the near future, I can see the NORWEGIAN SKY leaving the fleet, but definitely not the four you listed above. They are relatively new considering Carnival still operates the Fantasy-class, and Royal Caribbean is still operating the MONARCH of the SEAS and MAJESTY of the SEAS.

I doubt there is such a big demand here in Asia to fill up these ships in the near future... even RCI and Costa have troubles filling up their ships while Star Cruises has to semi-lay up one of their ships for several months a year

No chance of lay up in 2011. SUPERSTAR VIRGO will sail from Singapore year-round, SUPERSTAR AQUARIUS will sail from Taiwan, SUPERSTAR LIBRA from Penang and STAR PISCES from Hong Kong.

From the Singapore Cruise Center website, I found SUPERSTAR AQUARIUS sailing alongside fleet mate SUPERSTAR VIRGO from November to December 2011, possibly after the Taiwan season.

As for NORWEGIAN SKY, the last time plans to bring her to Asia were cancelled. Now that I think of it, is there any chance that Star Cruises would bring her to their fleet in 2012?

If I remember correctly, Star Cruises did not want the Sky. They put her up for sale. Rather than have her sit idle, NCL leased her back and re-entered into the 3 and 4 day cruise market from Miami.

The plan initially was to offload all of NCL's old tonnage to their parent company. This project is now complete... making their goal of having the youngest fleet in the industry. Star Cruises ended up selling multiple... Marco Polo, Norwegian Majesty, Norwegian Crown. They have even ended up selling/laying-up their own tonnage...Norwegian Dream, SuperStar Gemini, SuperStar Aries, MegaStar Aries, MegaStar Taurus, Star Aquarius, SuperStar Capricorn, SuperStar Taurus, etc

I feel Star is still trying to determine who they are/what they want to be in the industry. They had plans to build more ships with Meyer Werft, but all fell through. NCL became the area for growth, and all those plans are now looking up since NCL is finally driving profit under their new leadership. Genting's focus is casinos and resorts I believe (please correct me if I am wrong).

Best regards,

Brian

AQUARIUS will terminate her sailing in Hong Kong on 25 JAN and will not begin her Taiwan season until APR, so she will probably has to be semi-laid up for more than 2 months. Maybe they are scheduling a 2-month long refit for the ship? Personally I really hope they can utilize the ship to perform a few "destination cruises" while PISCES returns and takeover the daily 1-night cruise to nowhere.

Any photos/renderings of this project? They claimed that they did not want the Norwegian Crown because it was too small, and the Marco Polo would be too old and hard to maintain. Anyway, NCL cannot keep the Norwegian Star forever and that would have to be sold one day to maybe Star Cruises.

Are there any rumors of new ships to Star Cruises? I heard on a recent cruise onboard SUPERSTAR VIRGO about a proposal of some sort that would happen within the next two years...
