There is an intersting article floating about just know concerning the interior design of Princess vessels. I know there have been some discussions here regarding the topic, heated at times too, so thought I would give you the link. I don't know how to make it just a click away, but here it is:

Interesting article. I was always very indifferent about Princess Cruises interior design. I never cruised on them (but will this summer - Sea Princess). Instead I toured two of their ships, the Crown and Grand Princess, when I was a travel agent. I remember feeling that while the interiors were attractive something seemed to be lacking. Honestly, parts of the two ships I visited reminded me of the set of the Golden Girls house. Not sure why but it did!

I personally enjoy the interiors of RCI, Celebrity, Disney and the QM2 even the new Crystal Cruises look. But of course, like art and food, it is all subjctive!

The one thing I liked most about the Princess interiors were that they were soft and subdued, quite nice, but didnt demand or draw my attention. They were more or less 'background'.

I would very much like to cruise on one of the later Grand-class Princess ships. Being very familiar with Ventura (two cruises so far and a third booked) I know I'd find it very interesting to see the same basic spaces but having been designed by different designers.

The interiors of the Princess ships remind me of the Crowne Plaza hotel chain. Anderson's teal and brown color combinations are not good on the high seas.

On LinersList Princess interiors are trashed and when the Princess staff did the Queen Victoria they called her Mrs. Brown the designer that Anderson bird.

I've sailed on Grand and Dawn Princess and toured Sea Princess. Really, all the Princess ships look the same. You couldn't tell the theater, dinning room, or lounge on one ship from another. It does get kind of boring after you've seen RCI, Celebrity, or even HAL's interior designs.

Still, you must remember that Princess is a brand within a much larger company. It must distinguish itself from Carnival, HAL, P&O, Cunard, and Costa. If I had to peg each of their interior design philosophies here's how I'd call it:

Carnival: Entertainment Architecture
HAL: Modern Baroque
P&O: Euro Modern
Cunard: Victorian Traditional
Costa: Entertainment Architecture (with Italian flavor)
Princess: Club Contemporary

Having sailed on the Caribbean, Grand, Sea and Sapphire, the one thing that stands out is that the interiors are best described as non offensive to anyone.

There is not fantastic about them, but they shouldn't be off putting to anyone either...Unlike the beds.
