I found the following table in this quarter's Cruise Industry News, showing the earnings and expenses of the major cruise lines for 2011. Note that for Carnival and Royal Caribbean, these figures include all of the brands in their corporate portfolios, not just the namesake brands.

One question, if I may: what's excluded from Gross to give Net?

Tom, this table wasn't explained in the article, and I admit (not being an accountant) that the figures can be confusing. One assumes that somehow the operating expenses are deducted from the revenue in each category, thus giving the profit.

I just posted this for each person to draw their own conclusions, but perhaps someone better acquainted with keeping the books can explain.

So if we look at Carnival @ $25/day X 3000 (est.)passengers = $75.000 .Of course this is a bit high but I'll bet $50K more realistic.
Now figure in how many ships in the fleet.
Carnival is making $8/person a day more. I wonder why??? Any guesses??? LOL.

38 bucks for a bottle of nobilo sav blanc on dawn princess it retails for 13 dollars on land im thinking the markups on booze are probably the no1 source of their dasily earnings

With wine, well that happens at restaurants on land, too. I'm thinking about the bottles of rum that a line purchases in bulk for about $4.00 each; each bottle then makes about 25 rum drinks costing $6.95 each!

No doubt, bar and casino revenue are the cash cows for cruise lines!
