From Royal Caribbean:

Royal Caribbean announced this week that is offering two all-inclusive beverage package options on board its fleet. The packages are currently available on seven-night or longer sailings on the cruise line's thirteen ships - Legend of the Seas, Grandeur of the Seas, Splendour of the Seas, Independence of the Seas, Vision of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas, Brilliance of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas.

The two drink package options are:

The Classic package ($45 per person, per day)

This package features beer (priced $6.25 or less), house wines by the glass, as well as all nonalcoholic cocktails, sodas and juices. Bottled water and minibar items are not included.

The Premium package ($55 per person, per day)

The second option includes beer (no price limit), house wines by the glass, frozen drinks, all well, call, and premium- brand cocktails, as well as all nonalcoholic cocktails, sodas and juices. Bottled water and mini-bar items are not included.

The packages are available on all sailings of 7 nights or more and must be purchased onboard, on the first day of your cruise. If one person in a stateroom purchases a package, then all guests in that stateroom, 21 years of age or older must also purchase the package. The packages include service charges.

So, what's so special about bottled water that it's not included in either package?

I have always wondered about that as well.

For as as long as I can remember (...and that goes back to the 1960's) cruise lines have been charging for soda and bottled water.

You want an extra steak or lobster tail at dinner? No problem, and no charge. But a bottle of water or soda, sign here...

Some peopls say they do it "because they can" but I suspect there is some inventory management aspect in play too.

I note that Rhapsody, Radiance and Voyager are not included.
They are currently cruising in Australia.
Will they be included when they return to home waters?

So, let me get this straight. You're saying Aussies enjoy an occasional adult beverage?

Fountain soft drinks used to be free.(not anymore) A can of pop would cost you. Approx.$2 +tip/can.
If in St Thomas we usually go to a large store across from the Havensight Mall and buy a few 6packs of Coke or Dr. Pepper -about $3.50/ pack.
They never have stopped us on RCL, Princess,or Celebrity for this.
I have seen many people fill their water bottles in the Buffet. Just put them in the frig in your cabin to keep them cold.
We bought a cooler bag for the water bottle from Princess a few years ago and take it with us every cruise. A must in the warmer tropical climates.

No they wouldn't!

For those cruises the beverage package would be priced at $125 per day!

Just returns from the Costa Atlantica, for a week Dubai. It seems reasonable that the "all inclusive" drink-packadge is only € 19 p.p.p.d. ( including the 15% service charge). As price of beer is € 5,65 and wine by the glass is € 5, 70 (inclusive) is allready small profit from the fourth drink on.

Carnival Cruise Line has put a limit on the number of drinks you can have in a day on these plans. It applies both toe alcohol and soft drinks. Guess too many passengers were making a profit or drinking Carnival under the table so to speak ....
