Carnival Fantasy
Carnival Cruise Lines Cruise Critic reports the ship failed its health inspection, earning a score of 84. In a detailed report, compiled after the February 21 surprise inspection of Carnival Fascination and posted online this week, CDC inspectors documented several problems with food areas. Among the violations: exposed food items on the top shelf of a buffet area were not protected by a sneeze guard; a pulper in a food preparation room was heavily soiled with food waste; the drain below a juice dispenser in the room service prep room was inaccessible for cleaning and when opened was found to be dirty with several small flies and a roach nymph near the drain. Inspectors also found one instance of a crewmember who reported for a partial day of work after the onset of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) symptoms. Additional violations were cited for several instances of corroded equipment, loose piping in the galley and missing and/or cracked tiles

Carnival needs to get their act together!!!

So does Celebrity.

The Century and the Summit both failed as well.
The Century got a score of 78.
The Summit got a score of 81.

Interesting that these are old Celebrity ships.
It has to be difficult for any cruise line to meet health standards with all the activity in the food dept.
We toured the galley on the river cruise boat Njord(Viking)-Nov.2012 very tight quarters to work in. Very clean. Everyone had an area to keep clean and maintain. Of course only 190 passengers to serve.

It's funny that, when jetwet pointed out that Celebrity also had low scores, you said, "It has to be difficult for any cruise line to meet health standards with all the activity in the food dept." You can strip your gears by putting yourself in reverse so fast.

Clearly your hatred of Carnival is what fueled your original post.

If you take a look at the latest CDC 'Green Sheet' you'll see that Holland America, Princess, Hapag-Lloyd, Seadream and yes, Celebrity, all had ships with low scores.

Carnival has 24 ships and one didn't pass. Five received a score of 100, while the other 18 received a score of 90 or higher. Celebrity had 10 ships inspected, two failed and NONE received a score of 100.

BTW, the Carnival Fantasy (which is Carnival's oldest ship) received a 98...it was the Caribbean Fantasy that received a failing score.

I'm not a cheerleader for Carnival, but it's unfair to single them out for something that's obviously not exclusive to them.

They're tightening the noose just fine without your help.

A quick come back avoids confrontation which can happen on this site.
Notice: Cruise Critic reported on Carnival. I only forwarded the message. This problem was all over the NET .As Carnival is in the news often this is just another case of problems.
No! I don't hate Carnival as I have sailed on Princess and HAL-owned by Carnival.(7 cruises total).

This is not aimed at anyone, so please do not take it personally, unless you feel you fit the mold for what I am about to type.

There seems to be this preconceived (and in the early day well earned) image of Carnival among many people on here as the "cheap party cruises", mainly by people who have at the most only done one of the 3 day booze cruises.

Yes the 3 day cruises are, well 72 hour parties, but the are not that cheap.

We cruise twice a year at least once a year with Carnival, they are very rarely the cheapest, hell I am paying less for a 14 day cruise on NCL next year than I am for a 7 day cruise on Carnival this November, a lot less.

But here are a few strange things we have found with them.

They have the most comfortable beds we have found on the high seas.

The food is ok, certainly better than HAL and in many ways as good as Celebrity.

With the exception of one cruise director the staff have been great to amazing. For example a couple of years ago my wife came down with the flu 3 days into an 8 day cruise, after checking for norovirus and being given the all clear she spent the next 4 days in bed.

The room steward would check in on her every couple of hours, between him and his assistant she was left wanting for nothing.

I could give many examples of treatment like this, all the Carnival staff go above and beyond from what we have seen.

On the longer cruises the age range really seems to be towards an older crowd, however these are people that want to relax and have fun.

The Steakhouse is amazing, as in some of the best steak anywhere, not up to say Craft Steak, but certainly above Ruth's Cris/Mortons.

The only area where Carnival gets it wrong is the suites, they really are in most cases a waste of money.

Anyways, just my take, I could throw some stones at some of the premium brands that some here hold so dear, but really, we are all here to share our love for the sea and the ships that sail them.

I've said it once before.. I did 8 days on the Miracle out of NYC in October and had low expectations but was pleasantly surprised! My parents were on the miracle with me and have a trip booked next month on the Splendor... Crew was so friendly and great.. The steakhouse was excellent.. My father who has been on 10-15 cruises said it was the best good he's ever had on any ship.. including the MDR... Crowd was fine.. It's really all about how you make it...

Right now Carnival is under the microscope, they can't sneeze without the media grabbing ahold of it.

Which is my point. Frosty, whom I have tremendous respect for, said that "Carnival needs to get their act together!" According to the latest cdc report, they have it together more than some of the other, more "premium" lines, but apparently, as far as the media is concerned, that doesn't mean a hill of beans.

I've been on Carnival many times over the years; some trip were good, but the last one was horrible. I really believe it comes down to the ship, the length of the cruise and the port of departure.

New info: Seen on Events at Sea.

Bowing to negative publicity and considerable pressure from members of Congress, Carnival Corporation said Monday that it would repay the federal government an unspecified amount for responding to accidents on its Triumph and Splendor cruise ships, which left thousands of passengers stranded at sea. Carnival, the world’s largest cruise line company, said that the payments were being made voluntarily and that no government agency had requested them. But Senator John D. Rockefeller IV, Democrat of West Virginia, was highly critical last week of Carnival’s indirect responses to his inquiries about its willingness to pay. Mr. Rockefeller, chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, estimated the Coast Guard’s costs in dealing with the crippled Triumph this year at nearly $780,000. The 2010 engine fire that left the Splendor adrift, he said, cost the Coast Guard and Navy about $3.4 million. (See Associated Press

Very much so, more on the length of the cruise, the 3 day cruise I will be the first to admit are party cruises, throw in the fact that these are mostly on the older ships and you certainly have the opportunity to have a poor view of Carnival.
