Dambrosi said it in another positng I just read, and I wanted to give it a thread of its own, and see how every one else feels. What is this Big Red one,two or three foolishness? Next thing we'll be calling them "Big Red 7 of 9" Well, resistence is futile. But I like sailing on older ships, and I WON'T sail on the Big Red 7 of 9. How do the rest of you feel?

Considering what's been said about Premier and the manner in which they "raped" the SS Oceanic in other areas of this site, I can't help but agree. I wonder what horrors lay in wait for the Rembrandt (nee Rotterdam V).

My understanding is that Rembrandt (nee' Rotterdam 5) will be renamed Big Red Boat 3 - what a tragedy repainting that beautiful ship to match the scarlet lady the Oceanic.

When built for Home Lines in the early 70's Oceanic was a beautiful ship - one of the first desinged keep up for cruising. Look at her now - with a grass hut on the stern and all.

This just points out what damage a "branding consultant" can do. Its all the rage in the business world these days - just behind anything dot com.

Branding can provide an advantage - but what the brand stands for is also important. Carnival has done a great job of establishing a middle market brand in cruisng. The big red boat idea is absolutely tawdry by comparison. Its an attempt to shortcut the hard work that really building a brand takes.

Hey< don't you think it's better that Premiere is putting the Oceanic to good use instead of her rusting someplace. We sailed on her about 5 years ago and thought Premiere did a great job, I don't see where they raped her, she's doing what she was built for. Giving thousands of people a great time at sea, even it's only to the Bahamas. And hey I thought people like a lady in red LOL.

WOW!!! What a conversation here. We
can't stop them from doing what they
want. Remember what American Hawaii
Cruises did? They painted a sunset
on both of their ships. Look it up in your books folks. And I agree with Geno-R, the Lady in Red is just
as beautiful as ever. I hope to never see her rust in some yard as some are doing now. They run a tight
ship on the S/S OCEANIC, it's so clean you would'nt believe it. The
service is just as 5 star as ever, they hire only the best chefs for their galley. I'm still not crazy about the BIG RED BOAT 1 and so forth. But if the interior identity
of the ship's past is still present.
Then we must find happiness in it.
I'd go on her again. HAPPY CRUISING
EVERYBODY!!!!!

Actually, it's the names that bug me. I am glad that they are still sailing these ships, otherwise i'd never get on them...they'd all be dead by now. I think only one of the Indie/Constitution sisters was painted with the rising/setting sun. The nice thing about that chapter is that we outlived it, and so did the ship.
Maybe it's jsut me. I sailed with people who felt it was bad luck to rename any used boat they bought. Anyway, I think that the Premier product's strength is in its use of "classic" ships to provide "affordable" cruising. (I think they are outgunned in any attempt to take on Disney in the Kiddie market. Not to say they souldn't position themselves in that market, but not to put all their eggs in the "family market" basket)

Even if some of us don't like the way they take care of the clissics they have, we must appreciate the fact that these old ladies are still sailing. But i still don't like "big red boat 7 of 9."

Try this one on for size. Grand Princess, Grand Princess 2 and Grand Princess 3.

I think I saw that Princess is going to name the two sisters ships of Grand Princess as Grand Princess 2 and 3.

This is their attempt to "sub-brand" the idea of "Grand Class Cruising".

I think Princess hasn't either chosen or released the name of the two remaining Grand Princess sisters...so within the company, at the ship yard and in the brochures they were tagged 2 and 3.

It would be a mistake if they didn't give them their own "identity". Can you think of any names for them?

Moon Princess / Universal Princess / International Princess / Millennium Princess...
Well on the other hand, I hate the word Millennium, because it's used for about 10.000 times per day everywhere. My friend told me that if you write it with one "n" (millenium), it means asshole because the word millennium comes from latin words "mille" and "annus" and if you drop the other "n" away, there we go...

I think one of them is to be the new Island Princess. What the other one is to be, I don't know.

I wonder if Premier indends to keep the names of their Big Red Boat 1,2 & 3? Oceanic is the Big Red Boat, but still the Oceanic. Perhaps the Rembrandt will continue to be the Rembrandt, but also be considered Big Red Boat? I hate the idea that Rembrandt will be painted red - That's aweful! Some changes will have to be made to children-ize the Rembrandt a bit. I wonder what they plan to do? Why didn't they use the SeaBreeze as one of their Big Red Boats and leave the Rembrandt as the classic world-class ship as it is? Great thread by the way.

Magnum - I like the name Majestic Princess, not so sure about Magnificent Princess.

Let me see that leaves one more name to find how about Regal Princess, or Imperial Princess?

WJCdiver,
REGAL PRINCESS yet exists, this is the sister ship of the CROWN PRINCESS.
However, this is difficult to choose among all the names proposed here because they are all good and we can bet several of these will be used by Princess Cruise in the future. >think to depose a copyright! :-)
Bye.

I agree it's crazy to rename the ship when it changes hands. Premiere does seem to keep the names though. When the Atlantic became a big red boat, it still stayed Atlantic, and when the seabreeze was a big red boat, it stayed the Royale, I'm not sure if that was it's previous name though, so hopefully the other big red boats will still keep their name that they have.

You can discover several other news regarding ex-liners (ORIANA, AUGUSTUS...) at: www.maritimematters.com/shipnews.html
