Does anyone know of a source for reasonably priced model cruise ships? (& I don't consider the price of $900 for the Rotted V that HAL alumni just offered reasonable!)

I live in the uk, but have seen some nice scale models around for about $200, not exactly cheap...but cheaper!

Try this Germany Companies web site: http://www.classic-ship.de/

Hi Rich.

If I understand your question correctly, it seems as though the shipbuilding industry has moved to a philosophy where deck lengths have increased dramatically to, I guess, maximize the number of cabins and public rooms built into the ships. The result is unfortuntely less than aesthetically pleasing, because in doing so, bow areas are significantly shorter and the streamlined elongation that was the hallmark of the liner has disappeared, as has the open area of deck at the stern of the ship, commonly referred to as the fantail. As you'll notice, most modern cruise ships have a more or less "chopped off" appearance at the stern, one of the aspects I find most unattractive of these vessels.

I hope this answers your question to some extent.

There is an outfit called "ALNAVCO" That sells very detailed metal models of all types of ships. They have a large selection of ocean liners which includes some contemporary cruise ships. The prices are in the $100.00 range. I've purchased Normandie, Raffaello & Sovereign of the Seas from them. Check out their website: www.alnavco.com

It's the hardest thing to find cruise ship models. I know Glencoe,
you can find it on the search engine
has a model of the S/S NORWAY. But
it's been on backorder for months.
Too bad we can't start a letter writing campaign to these companies.
There are alot of us out here that
want these type of models.

Edward V at al,

I found the following web site:
http://www.maritimereplicas.com

They build replica model of cruise ships. These replicas are ordered by cruise line so that they can ship it their most favorable travel agent or travel agency. Although these replicas are pricy, I would mind owning one.
Check it out, I'm sure you and any all you ship lovers will like this web site too.

Freewinds was the Boheme of Commodore Cruises. Long ago she did 7 day Caribbean cruises from Miami. She now offers some type of religious retreat cruises. I saw her anchored next to us in St. Bart's..she looks the same as she did 30 years ago.

The FREEWINDS is the former BOHEME which was built for Wallenius Bremen in 1968.
In 1986, it was sold to San Donato Properties Corp., Panama, is managed by Majestic Cruises and is operated for the International Association of Scientologists.
So you might better watch up to not get in touch with people cruising with this ship because this sect does not seem to be undangerous...
