To my Ocean Liner friends in Europe, does anyone know the current condition of the Edinburgh Castle? From what I understand, the ship is laid up in Southampton because of a bankruptcy. Premier Cruises is looking at possibly buying the ship and refitting it as a running mate to the Oceanic (BigRedBoat) which would cruise out of Houston, Texas. Sounds like a great idea. Does anyone have any comments about the ship?

This very beautifuf ship is famous for her good nautical qualities and comfort.
She' coming from era of ocean liners and i hope her future will be good and she will have a long life.
But i don't know more that you about this future ... so wait and see! (and hope!)

Hello Barryboat!
I'm very happy you're interested in Eugenio Costa because she is my forever loved ship.
I read too she was stopped because of a bankrupcy and I regret very much because I remember her during her long career up to her last cruises in the Mediterranean Sea, alwayf full of enjoying persons. I'm not very surprised because I remember she remained in Genoa shipyards several months after selling to the actual owner: in that period few works where made and probably there were already some economic troubles.
I cruised twice aboard Eugenio Costa and I must tell you that after cruising aboard ships like Monarch of the Seas and Splendour
of the Seas I realized immediately she was not suited to cruise longer in those condition. Too small lounges and cabins, a terrible self service and a lot of vibrations are unbearable nowadays. But I'm sure that a very good refurbishment can make her become an exceptional cruise ship with extraordinary nautical qualities ( I don't know another ship with her stability in case of rough sea ).
I'm enthusiast for Premier Cruises' intention
to buy her but I must tell them to save only the hull and rebuild al the remaining part.
So she will become one of the most beautiful ships in service, surely better than the ones they actually own ( I don't know Rembrandt ex-Rotterdam V ).
Have you noticed I haven't never used the name Edinburgh Castle? It's too unlucky for her!
