I just wanted to start a new thread to opinions from other ocean liner buffs regarding my QM2 design.

I sent a detailed description and drawings to Carnival/Cunard of what I thought the ultimate QM2 design would be. From years of studying the Queen Mary and other ships, I took all that I learned and wrapped it all up into this design. I took some modern features from new cruise ships, some old features from the old liners of the past and I integrated some of the features of the original Queen Mary into this design. I think it would be a tremendous ship if it were built, but others may their own opinion of what a "modern" ocean liner should look like. I do like the Cunard artist conception of the new QM2 project, but I don't think that Cunard should copy the QE2's funnel design for the new ship. QE2's funnel is unique, which is what sets her apart from all the other ships out there, and I think Cunard should keep it that way. Why not build a new super ocean liner with an older, more traditional (classic Cunard) funnel design?

For revenue purposes, I understand why they would build the suites to stretch all the way aft, but I like my idea of those three blocked sections built into the hull to kind of break up the straightness. I think these blocked sections would give the new QM2 a sense of strength, not to mention, built-in expansion joints.

I also like the idea of the ocean view elevators, located on the third blocked section, which traverse 11 decks. ( I felt that this idea to have oceanview elevators was very unique, and now Holland America Line is building a new ship with this concept in mind.)

My QM2 design would be about 1160 feet long. Notice in the bow area a Queen Mary feature? That little dip or well in the forecastle section. I really like my bow design, it's very strong and powerful. Anyways, I'm proud of my design if you haven't figured that out already.

Below are the two designs, I'd love to hear feed back from some of you. What do you think?

Barryboat....
I like your design.....especially the bow.
I like the funnel, but perhaps slightly
eliptical. I am not sure about the external
elevators....in some of the Atlantic storms
I've been in I'm not at all sure they would
survive.
I hope Carnival/Cunard listens to your very
worthwhile and well thought out design plans.
Keep up the good work!

I love your design Barryboat, it is
far more impressive and more toward
the standards we look for in an
oceanliner/modern cruiseship.
Way to go Barryboat, I hope Carnival
and Cunard really take this into consideration. If I was running the
show, I know I would go with it. Because I know what my paying passengers want.

NAL, the elevators are not external, or out side of the hull, there are windows that stretch 11 decks, and the elevators are behind the windows, giving passengers an ocean view as they move from deck to deck.

I'd love to hear from Malcolm or Vaccarro regarding my design - It's a rough sketch so details are hard to see, but what do you think?

I think it is really good Barryboat. Carnival Corp would be foolish to disregard it. The only thing I prefer on their own drawing is the funnel. It is more substantial, but it is an excellent design. Maybe we could build it and put in in our Regent Sun fleet.lol

Thanks Paddy, I like the new rendering of the QM2, but I think there is too much emphasis on the balconies

I like your QM2 design!! Personally I prefer the new official Cunard Design to the Color pic you have up, simply because it seems to flow better.

Things I like about your QM2 - The traditional bow and fo'castle (however I doubt we will see that on QM2.)I also like your QM2's bridge.

I prefer the following on Cunard's Picture. The funnel, because it has more character, but I do think Cunard should make it a little more different to QE2's funnel. I also prefer the mast and superstructure of Cunard's design, it seems to flow better.

I too have drawn a picture of what I want QM2 to look like, unfortunately it is 1 meter long so it won't fit into my scanner.

Well done Barry and keep up the good work.

I don't know what happened to the images...I think I emailed Joe the image and he posted it. This was before we had the photo gallery feature. I suppose I could dig for my original drawing, scan it and post it in a gallery.
