I just received word that the press conference scheduled for Friday, May 19, has been canceled due to a conflict in scheduling for a number of public officials who happen to be meeting with the President the same day.

I will announce any rescheduling as it becomes available. Hopefully, I'll be able to attend the rescheduled conference.

Here's Mike Alexander's note on the subject:

The press conference scheduled for this Friday (5/19/2000) has been canceled. According to conference organizer Tom Margiotti of Philadelphia the reason for the last minute cancellation is a visit of President Clinton in Philadelphia on Friday. Mr. Margiotti explained that individuals that were to be a part of the press conference will instead be meeting with the President. At this time there is no rescheduled date.
As soon as a new date is known, it will be posted here and if you're on the Info Update list, you'll be alerted in an e-mail.

This information was brought to my attention late today. I apologize for any inconvenience. I know many people were excited at the prospect of visiting the SS UNITED STATES.

I spoke with Mr. Margiotti and relayed wishes of many for more advanced notice on a reschedule date. Also, I shared a suggestion that this event would be more successful if held on a weekend.

Again, I regret this change of plans. Reading this means you are listed on the update list at ss-united-states.com and I'll post you as soon as more news is known.

Thanks for your support. I am confident that word about the monumental SS UNITED STATES is getting around. Who knows, perhaps the President got your letter, and he'll swing by to see the ship on Friday...

Interest in the SS UNITED STATES is growing. That's due in part to many who have written their representatives, sent a letter to the editor or in some unique way contributed to building awareness. The SS United States
Foundation is also a great focus point for efforts on behalf of the Big U. Get involved if you can. Whatever form your support takes, it is your ability to speak up, that will prove to be the most powerful tool in
helping to save the SS UNITED STATES. Spread the word.

As always,

Mike Alexander
