I'm intrigued to find out why people chose there usernames. Many are far from obvious!

In my case: I choose 'Malcolm' because my parents christened me 'Malcolm'

When I first registered I put my first name in, Diane, and it was rejected. Being not too clever with computer lingo, I thought they meant what company was I using to connect to the Internet, so I put in sympatico and it has stuck. Pretty dumb, eh and now it is too late to change it. I know better now.

CTrail actually has two meanings by fluke.
Sea Trail for this site's influence and Coffee Table Rail for my hobby (where it originated) which is a slightly larger than a Coffee Table railroad under glass. HO scale for those that understand that. The corners are angled so that it takes on an octagonal appearance. The top is actually plexiglass and it extends down from the top plate about twelve inches to the rail bed where the edge is hidden by an oak cove and small bushes. The plexi top was the only thing that my wife and I didn't make.
It is divided into three sections depicting summer, fall and winter scenes.
In the Christmas scene there is an outdoor Christmas tree with lights and a flashing star on top along with a frozen pond for the skaters and a small hill for the skiers. A lighted house and church finish off the scene.
The Summer scene boasts a shunting yard and a coal tower ( I'm doing the early 50's era with steam, my childhood) it also has a farm with the odd bull wandering around the homestead again all buildings are light.
The fall consists of a general store and a home with an apple orchard with the apples all over the trees. What a pain that was. A fifties pickup is used by the farmer and it has a couple of boxes of apples in the back. For the fitness group there is a jogger in the summer scene. Something that I have often thought about doing, so when that happens I lie down until the feeling goes away.
Overall lighting is tucked up around the dividing Oak Top pieces so that it is really indirect lighting so that all you see is a glow which can be varied for either dailight or night time effect. There is a hand made trestle bridge in the summer as I had to loop the main line around in order to have at least five block signal controls (red, green, and yellow) all synchronized by the locomotive as it passes through the different blocks just like the real thing.

It was a labour of love by both my wife and myself and it took us about one and a half years to finally finish. The finishing touch was the sound system that gives the rail sounds of the cars and that eerie whistle in the background at certain times.

Can you tell that I'm very proud of what we have done.

That's my story behind my moniker.

Don't worry, I talk about my family and job the same way. I'm just so fortunate to be around people doing things that I enjoy so much.

I use to work in an office selling cruises and a guy across the hall use to come in and call me Barryboat. I shrugged it off, but then years later, I remembered Barryboat and thought that it would be a catchy title for someone who talks about ships all the time.

Gizmo was the name of my dog. She was a mixed terrier, that kind of resembled the "Gizmo" from the movie. She is gone now but was friend and companion for 14 years.

Very interesting so far!

I find it rather strange not knowing the gender of many of my fellow cruise-talkers! Of course it should not matter at all, but it still bothers me? (I am male, in case you are in any doubt).

P.S. I thought you were called "Green" because you are very prone to sea sickness!

During our residence in SE Asia, my wife and I used to escape the limits of taking vacations in areas of active insurgency by traveling on the Messageries Maritimes Line, a line which (among other routes) operated three sisterships, the Laos, Cambodge, and Vietnam on schedules from Marseilles to Yokohama which would have done the operations of the late, great 20th-Century Limited proud.

Our last voyage on this line was on the "Paquebot Cambodge!"It suffered significant engine damage as we approached Hong Kong, and we were laid up there for six days before pressing on. We bypassed our destination, Bangkok, and went directly to Singapore, where, as luck had it, her outbound sistership "Laos" made a mid harbor transfer of MM's Bangkok-bound passengers.

Result, our vacation was six days longer, which translated into 24 additional bottles of complementary (very good - it was a French Line you know) bottles of wine and 18 additional fine meals for myself and wife. And not an additional centime charged!

Vive la France!

After this "Cambodge" became "Stella Solaris," (presumably with a new power plant!)with a significant hull rebuild. And, I assume, is still sailing.

Malcolm - Most fortunately I'm not prone to sea sickness - I swear by a double brandy with a splash of soda at bedtime! I did get very sick going around Lake Superior on a train though. Learned many yers later that it had something to do with the rail track gauge. That train rattled and rolled - I really wanted to die.

I'm female - given name Isobel. Does that make you feel better:-). I agree that it's good to know the gender - I also like to know at least the country of posters.

Cheers

P.S. My Dad was a Cockney!

I was always one of those kids who felt more at home around adults than I did around kids my own age...(somehow I see our Cunard on here as this type of person - although I'm fully aware I could be wrong!)...

Anyway, I somehow was always called "Kiddo" by my friends since I was so much younger than the rest of the group. Now, as a 33-year-young woman, I guess I should not be considered a kiddo any longer...but I still have those "old" friends and I'll always be their kiddo...

My initials are KAT - the rest is obvious. Except I spell it with a K because it works better with KAT.

KruzinKat (aka Karen - and it doesn't take too much imagination to figure out my middle name)

Mine's fairly obvious, but it was a change, since my alter ego, Joe at PwC, was to become irrelevant due to the fact that my consulting unit was to be spun off. The result: well, I would no longer be "at PwC." So the first thing that came to my mind was my pet project. I was surprised to find that it had not already been used.

last name. Katie (female) is 12 yrs old and
I am 53. Interesting enough, my family

Many people cannot pronounce my name so they call me Justine. My ten year old grandson thought it was a great idea for an internet name because one should not give away their real name "Just in case". I thought that was cute. I am female of course.
