I am planning to sail on the Rembrandt August 6. I am aware of the problems that the Rembrandt has been having with her A/C and boilers. Does anyone know if these problems have been remedied, and if the ship sailed from New York yesterday without any problems? I am especially curious since the ship just ended the charter and is now back sailing with Premiere.
I have read so many things about the Rembrandt, good and bad. I have always loved ocean liners and hope that I will not be disappointed in this ship that I have wanted to see for so long. I have a cabin on A deck and I am hoping that it will be cool there. I heard that B deck is the warmest. Does anyone have suggestions for things to see on the ship or places to see in Quebec, Sydney, Portland, or Newport?

Overall is this an OK cruise?

Thanks,

Seablu

Our July 6 Didion-Premier cruise was excellent, over somE of the same routes. We would like to take one of the NYC Canada trips on Rembrandt this autumn. If the price is right, primarily so we can trave on that great ship again. But the BRB option --fuggetaboutit!

In the northeast ports, out major quest was lobster!

We did a 7/22 on the Rembrandt out of Baltimore to Freeport, Port Canaveral, Savannah & Charleston. We had no A/C problems, our cabin was 114 on the lower promenade but you are correct about the B deck - heard some complain about A/C there. Don't miss the art & history tour - it was one of the best activities offered. Can't advise about your itinerary but I will say do your homework and don't depend on the on-ship shore excursions folks. I found the tours offered overpriced and the information given by staff incorrect. For example, in Port Canaveral, we were told the only way to get to Cocoa Beach was to take a taxi at a fare of $25.00 one way. Turns out there was a "fun bus" that you could ride for $5.00 all day that took you right there - the drivers were exceptioally helpful and even arranged a bus to Kennedy Space Center since many had asked. This was our first cruise so I have no basis for comparison but I had a wonderful time -- excellent crew. The ship is truly beautiful and perhaps should really be a museum but I feel fortunate to have sailed on it! You'll have a great time and meets lots of interesting people.

How heavily was the ship booked?

I heard that the Didion/Baltimore cruises were sellouts or near so.

And the Premier bookings were well short of optimal.

One would think there would be a lesson here for the Premier headshed.

Baltimore Port of Origin and Didion's promotions including an outstanding web site were sellouts.

Premier's Ports of Origin and their promotions, lousy.

Or do I exaggerate?

Just returned from the Rembrandt 7/30 cruise to Montreal and it was a fantastic experience. The ship is beautiful and the crew keeps it spotless. I can't say enough good things about the crew, everybody was very friendly and go out of their way to make the passengers feel special. On this cruise we had 899 passengers.
