Just placed a courtesy hold on a cabin for the Final Crossing. But NCL told my travel agent that the air package (about $700) included air back from Europe. Can this be right?

The NCL web site is quoting $604.00 pp for air to/from Boston MA.

nathan:

are you referencing the price? The actual costs from US air gateways are listed in NCL's "voyages and pricing" section. US East Coast shows $600 - $700, depending on the availability of direct service to/from London. Given that it includes the flight to Miami as well as the return from London, taxes and transfers, it's probably a god bit less than what you'd pay on your own for two one way tickets alone.

I expected the air fare to be a lot higher than that. In May I paid almost $400 for air and transfer to Miami. The $700 included air to Miami, air back from London, and return air home, plus one night in Miami pre-cruise. When you consider air is about $700, port taxes about $500, this Norway trip is a bargain -- almost sounds too good to be true.

In August 1999, we sailed the eastbound crossing of the S/S Norway (Southhampton through New York and on to Miami.) The r/t air (to England from Boston and from Miami to Boston) was $399.00 pp. Now the same flights (only in reverse order) are $604.00 pp. I realize this includes a one night pre cruise in Miami so in effect we are paying $205.00 for the hotel (compared to 2 years ago.)

This is well and good if we had the luxury of taking the extra day for the pre cruise, however, there is no option offered as far as not paying for this. If we don't take the pre cruise in Miami, where is the extra $205.00 going?

This is obviously, as stated by bostom, far less than one could secure their own air, but it seems that those of us who don't take the pre-cruise are being penalized.

Renegade:

What precruise? I'm going from Boston too, and expected to fly down Sunday AM. No mention of it from the TA or NCL.

If you are sailing on the Norway's Transatlantic, why not think about stopping over for 2-3 nights in my home town, London.

London is only a couple of hours away by train or bus from Southampton!

The NCL website changes faster than the stock market. Just last week there was a reference to a "complimentary" one night pre cruise in Miami. This has now disappeared

Also, last week, the 13-day departing New York was offered.

I'm sure there will be many more changes by NCL/Star before this cruise departs Miami.

Sorry if I got everyone's hopes up...

NCL UK still can't provide me with a price for the cruise!

"The gala farewell voyage (September 2, 2001)will be the 400th time the ship crosses the Atlantic and will be a nostalgia cruise with many special events planned. Most of the Atlantic crossings were made when the ship was the liner, ss France but more than 2 millionpassengers have sailed on her since she became theNorway for Norwegian Cruise Line."

I'm told that Cruise Ships always sell-out their top and bottom grades first!

Some of the grades in the 'middle' are often still available pretty near to departure time. The Norway does have a lot of cabins. There are only so many 'Ocean Liner' buffs out there! Most cruises are looking for the 'sun and beach'.

Are NCL (USA) offering any post-cruise packages in London? It would be a shame to cruise all that way and not visit my hometown for a couple of nights

Talked with NCL today - air Toronto/Miami - London/Toronto quoted Canadian$1079.00 per person - airport taxes extra - no mention of comp. nights before or after.

Cabin rates - AE - CAD$3407.00
DD - CAD$2935.00
Port Taxes - CAD$377.00.

Malcom - have often heard that top and bottom grades on any cruise go first - no surpise there.

My wife and I are now booked on! NCL UK finally came up with some prices.

As per useual the UK prices seem more expensive that the US prices, even taking the Transatlantic air package into account? We know it as "Rip-off Britain"!

If any of you Brits are thinking of booking, don't do it directly with NCL, a good TA will give you an extra 10% discount on top of the so called NCL discounts. (If you want more advice, just Email me).

Hey guys, please don't tell me if you got a great deal, I really don't want to know!

See you aboard?
