Was the QE2 ever the biggest* liner/cruise ship in opperation? If so, how long did she hold this crown for?

Probably for the years that the France/Norway was out of service (1974-80?).

I would think longer than that, as when she came into service in 1969 she had a higher GRT than the France did. So I would say from 1969-1980.

Was she or was she not the biggest opperating ship, and for how long?

(Although not at a Cunard fan...so please forgive me any mistakes)
QE2 entered service at 65000 approximately
tons, just a little smaller than the 66000 tons of the France. She underwent the refit of 1972 (when the suites with balconies were added and the beautitul panoramic front lounge deleted) and reentered service with a new 67000 tons tonnage, thus becoming larger than the France. Norway took revenge for the France in 1980 with her 70000 tons.

So, the QE2 was the largest ocean/cruise ship in operation before the retirement of the France in 1974, namely between 1972-1980.

Malcolm, I wait with agony to learn the precise data.

Today she is not even among the 25 bigger cruise ships of the world, but one could argue that she runs perhaps first in prestige, publicity and personality.

I wonder what exact number she does occupy in terms of size, in the leauge table today?

Now, that's a good question, needing much patience to be answered!
And, with all these new 70.000+ tons ships now getting built, her position in the list will become lower and lower every year (sniff...).
