Malcolm, except the somehow indifferent 'Splendour' or 'Legend of the Seas'(upper photo), you made us nostalgic and thanks.
The other ship in upper photo is the once pride of the German fleet, the Hapag-Lloyd 33000 tons 'Europa', a fine heir of a brilliant name. Now to Star Cruises as 'Super(or Mega?)star Europe'.
The ship in the lower photo was one of the late John Carras prides,'Danae' or 'Daphne'.
I suppose it is the latter, later with the same name in the Costa fleet. The last time I saw it ran as the 'Switzerland'(1996).
Both ships beloved and beautiful, special ships for special people...Nice choose!

The ship in the lower photo (ex Danae or Daphne) has had the forward portion of the lowest deck in the superstucture pulled out forward since the Costa days. I was not aware that had been done; perhaps it was with the rebuilding after the fire wrote of the Danae some years ago (1991??).
As for the Legend or Splendour, it is easy to see that the much promoted but very seldom used golf coarse is a real negative addition to a vessel, as it removes vast areas of deck space for non golfing sun worshippers. The other 4 vessels in that series seem to have a better design in terms of deck space.
Given a choice, the tradional beckons more; but then I have a bias for older style vessels.

Oh it's too easy for you guys!

Yes in Dublin it was 'Europa' (left) and RCL's 'Spendour of the seas'. I don't know the name of the Stena Line ferry?

In the UK it is 'Princess Danae'.I don't know the name of the tug either?

O.k. here's two more ships at Falmouth (U.K).

.

You can even see the name on the ship in the foreground. What is the other ship in the background.

I know it's easy, but it gives me a reason to paste the picture!

Island/Pacific Princess and Astor. Knowing my luck I seem to be the first to find it but someone will have posted before this comes up and I will look a bit silly. Tehehe.

P.S. The Stena Line ship in Dun Laoghaire is Stena Challenger, which takes 500 passengers and 480 cars and takes 3 hours 45 minutes for the crossing to Holyhead.

Paddy.

The Princess ship were previously named, a long time ago, the Island Venture (Island Princess) and Sea Venture (Pacific Princess). Aboard Pacific, there is still etched glass with her original name visible!! I love these picture tests. If only I had a scanner.

The first picture shows an Royal Carribean Liner and the former Europa, 36000 tons.

Now, they have a new one, with 28000 tons,
best ship in the world rated by Berlitz 2001.

The ship in the second picture in Barrow-in Furness U.K.
is NOT the Daphne (now "Switzerland")
and NOT the Danae (now Princess Danae, Arcalia Shipping Lisbon)

it is the ASTRA II, former "Golden Odyssey" of the former Royal Cruise Line from Greece,
now sailing for Deutsche Seereederei Rostock.

For this company are also sailing the "Arkona"
and the German Club ship "Aida".

The starting Cranich in the logo in the funnel is the logo of the company.

Also seen in the funnel of Arkona and Aida.

Schaljapin: It's for sure that the ship in the second picture is not the Astra II. It's the Princess Danae, former Danae. The Astra II was built in 1974 and the Danae in 1955, so I think you can clearly see that the ship in the picture is not from the year 1974...

Translation: The ship of the second picture is not the ASTRA II ! It is definitely the PRINCESS DANAE of Arcália Shipping with the logo of Classic International Cruises on the funnel.

The ships on the first picture are Hapag Lloyd´s EUROPA (now SuperStar ARIES) and Royal Caribbean´s SPLENDOUR OF THE SEAS.

On the third picture you can see Sovcomflot´s ASTOR (ex FEDOR DOSTOEVSKIY)in the colors of her charter-operator Transocean Tours and the PACIFIC PRINCESS of Princess Cruises.

The last picture shows Arcália Shipping´s FUNCHAL, still with her old logo.

Patrick, thats true, i made an mistake.
I thougt, in the funnel is the logo of the Deutsche Seereederei Rostock, the starting
Cranich (big bird)

Is the Cardiff one the Albatros? I have no reason to think that it is, just a stab in the dark.

It is the "Funchal", in the old logo of Arcalia Shipping Company, Lisbon.
She has about 10000 tons and is constructed in Denmarc in 1961.

The Albatros has 25000 tons and is constructed in UK in 1957, it is the former Cunard Liner "Sylvania".

Now under charter of Phönix Seereisen in Bonn,
sailing for V-ships in Monaco
(Vlasov, an russian family clan)

What I do not know: is this the Russian Mafia??!!

The Albatros serves specially for German Passengers, but not for the best of them.

The Funchal is not offered on the german market at the moment, she is often in South America. (Brazil, an former Portugues Colony)

Translation:
The logo, as already mentioned, on the PRINCESS DANAE is the one of Classic International Cruises, which came out of Arcália Shipping. Anyway, the logo on her funnel has changed several times already due to various charter-contracts (Nouvelles Frontières or Croisières Transtous).
The SWITZERLAND, since the bankrupty of Leisure Cruises, is now managed through Dreamline Cruises, a Swiss-based company working with an entire Ukrainian crew from Black Sea Shipping Company (except the hotel-management).
The Vlasov-family is a well-known ship´s operator already for many years which is running more than 100 ships worldwide. For example the famous Sitmar Cruises was managed through V-Ships. Today, V-Ships is managing and owning several cruiseships like the ones of Silversea Cruises, Airtours Sun Cruises, the MINERVA, ASTRA II, UNIVERSE EXPLORER, ALBATROS...
The ALBATROS is a well-going ship and has lots of repeaters.

Patrick,

I didn'd now that leisure cruises went to bankrupty! I had an offer from cruisetravel.nl starting september 25. Was the company already down at that time?
Wat is happening to the Switserland now and do you think its a good thing?

Sieh mal an, was man im Board so alles erfährt...
