I have just watched a very interesting programme on Discovery Channel “Cities on the Sea”. It covered the latest mega-liners and their operations, including interviews with lots of Carnival employees, I was looking for Gerry on the screen but he didn’t appear .
One topic discussed was the evacuation of 5000 people from the Voyager/Explorer, in case of an emergency, and were the new megaliners just getting too big to be practical, also the logistics of turn around day for these megaliners was shown. Well worth seeing.
Has anyone else seen this programme?
CheersM.
I just have a steam radio for entertainment!
To my knowledge 'Cities...' has not been on Canadian Discovery - will keep an eye out.
I.
Yes try and keep and eye out for this programme, it really is very interesting and the detail that it went into.
Discovery have still to show the final episode of life on board Aurora, filmed during a cruise to the Caribbean this year, so I am keeping my eyes peeled too, but sometimes its difficult because of the way they name the programmes, for instance "Cities on the Sea" was shown on Discovery Sci-Fi under "Showcase", I would never have found it if I hadnt been surfing through the channels that night.
Cheers Mary
I have seen "Cities on the Sea" a few times. It raised a few interesting questions. One of which has to do with the ecology. Given a small island with a population of a few thousands, 2 or 3 of these megacruise dock at such island will create an instance population that tripled or quatrupled. The ecology of that island will not able to handle the sudden population increase.
Yes you are right it did cover the ecology and many many other aspects, thats why I found it so interesting, and it certainly gave me food for thought when they discussed the likelihood of trying to clear 5000 people off a ship in 30 minutes, and admitted that it could not be done. I am hoping that it will come back on again so I can see it right from the beginning of the programme.
CheersMary
