We're as a whole pretty good about coming up with the ocean liners used by Hollywood in the movies; how about naming the passenger vessels use in classics like UNCLE TOM'S CABIN, GONE WITH THE WIND, or STEAMBOAT ROUND THE BEND? There are other movies too featuring boats. Can anyone come up with their titles and name the vessels used for filming? For extra credit, does anybody know the name of the vessel in the not as yet released movie MISS MADISON?

On the Big Screen :

QE2 features in "Parent Trap" as the ship the "Parents" get married on and make a second honeymoon aboard. QE2 also is
mentioned in "Aladdin 2" in one of the songs.

Titanic of course is a star in "Titanic", "SOS Titanic", "To Raise the Titanic", "A Night to Remember" and "Titanic 1956" , however
this is not the real ship (of course).

Rotterdam (I think) features in the movie "Out to Sea"

Sagafjord (pre Cunard) features in the drama movie "Danger" where the ship which in the movie is called 'SS Seaview' is overcome
by a killer virus.

On the Small Screen :

QE2 also features in the sitcom "The Nanny" in many episodes. She is the star of the show in "Keeping up Appearances - Episode
'Sea Fever'" when Hyacinth and Richard take a cruise.

Carnival Fantasy features in a kids movie with the Olsen Twins aboard.

And of course the princess "love boats" in Love Boat...

Cunard - no it was not the Rotterdam in "Out to Sea" - it was the Westerdam they used for a few shots on the bridge and the Lido deck.
All interior shots were done in a studio.

the movie your thinking of ,ocngypz, is SPEED 2: CRUISE CONTROL (to be exact!)
its a pretty good movie

also, an episode of the nanny was filmed onboard one of the celebrity ships.

there was also a bbc production (not sure of the name of the show) that was a documentary of the behind-the-scene goings onboard the galaxy.

In the 1930's to the 1950's, many ships starred in movies.

Remember the SS Ile De France? The ship that rescued the most from the plagued TN Andrea Doria? It was scuttled for a movie in the 1960's right before she was scrapped.

The Fox Family Channel also had the Brittanic Movie. As usual, the real HMHS Brittanic was never used.

A docu-soap called simply "The Cruise". It made ship board singer Jane McDonald a big star in the UK. She has released several CD's, appears on prime time TV and has toured the UK, which included a show at the Royal Albert Hall.

The power of the little screen!

In the small screen area. The Love Boat TV show used both the Pacific and Island Princess in their 2 episodes a year they did onboard. The rest were done in the studio. I was on the Island during filming in 1978. As I recall the Pilot was done on the Sun Princess.

The movie "Now Voyager" with Bette Davis took place on 2 cruises.

1st cruise was a P&O Steamer where she was having a fling with a crew member/officer; something I have had the pleasure of on the Rembrandt

Both were caught nookying in a car on the frieght deck[titanic copied theme with Leo and Kate]

Next cruise to Rio De Janiero used the original Empress of Britain; beautiful ship for exterior shots. She had a romance with a passenger.

I sailed to Rio on the Stella Oceanis as a teen.

Another movie I can think of was Table for Five w/ John Voight which was set aboard Vistafjord (although the scene of them sailing from New York shows Sagafjord).

I also recall a movie filmed aboard Maxim Gorky but cannot recall its name - can someone help me on that?

The French Atlantic Affair (a 80's mini series used exterior shots of Mardi Gras if I am not mistaken).

And the series Tales of the City supposedly used a Carnival ship but used Celebrity externals - I really hate it when the researchers/ continuity people screw things up like that - what do they get paid for?????

Additionally one scene from Brideshead Revisted was filmed on QE2...

Can't think of anymore right now - anyone else care to have a go?

A couple of years back an episode of the X Files was filmed aboard the Queen Mary. She was supposedly a 1930's liner that went missing and was suddenly "found" drifting at sea (being TV of course, the power was still on after 60 years!). They also filmed on board quite a lot. Pearl Harbour also included some bow shots of the QM with New York in the background - obviously forgetting that she would have been painted grey during this time and that Manhatten would have been visible from the other direction, not at the stern!

The Lady Eve (1941) - shots of the MAURETANIA (II) and the QUEEN MARY. The ship in the movie was called SS SOUTHERN QUEEN.

Romance on the High Seas (1948) also used the name "SOUTHERN QUEEN" for its fictional ship, but used exterior shots of one of the famed SANTA-class Grace Liners.

I think I may have mentioned this on another post, so slap me if I did...

The 1930's (or 40's) musical "Luxury Liner" was filmed on art deco sets but real color footage of the Conti de Savioa was used to represent the ship at sea.
The "French Atlantic Affair" used Carnival's Festivale as the setting. The ships name was not changed, but in the mini-series the Festivale was a fictional French transatlantic liner belonging to the French-Atlantic Line. In the novel of the same name the ship was the QE2.
The Marx Brothers used a liner for one of their settings in the comedy "Monkey Business". I saw this many years ago, but if I remember correctly it was White Star's Homeric that was shown sailing across the screen several times.
