To anyone who has sailed on the liner recently.
Do they have a standard gift shop on board to buy a shot glass of the ship like what you would find on the other cruiselines ships? And do they have a special ship's photographer's booklet of the interiors and exteriors of the ship? I have a friend going on the INDY next month. Thank you for your reply.

I think you might be out of luck. I wanted to buy a shot glass in 1999 in the gift shop (yes there is a gift shop) but all they had was a cheap thing with a glued on logo as I recall. The actual merchandise probably changes over time though. If your friend finds a good one, have him get one for me too
As far as photo booklets, I don't recall seeiing anyting like that but I wasn't looking for that in particular. I wish I'd have taken more pictures of the interiors and exteriors of the ship, I do have a lot of video, but few photos on board. You can have your pick of caps and T-shirts though.

I can't answer your question, yet, but soon I'll be on the Indy too. When is your friend going on the INDEPENDENCE; is he/she a ship buff too? If so maybe we can meet. Thanks

Hi Frank, my friend is going on the INDEPENDENCE
on Feb. 16th. I hope you will be on the INDY before
her and her husband get on
board. So I can get some
memorabilia from the liner. I always take a LOT
of interior and exterior
shots when I go on cruises. Especially with the lovely older classier
liners. They really have
panache. I used to live in
Paducah, KY. Looking forward to your reply.

Here is a link to my Independence pictures, most of which are captured from video. Frank, don't miss the engine room tour. They only give two tours of ten people each. Sign up at the pursers desk when you board.

The shop is blessedly buried on a lower deck. I do not remember if there are shot glasses. There is a really great book of the history of the Connie and Indy, with some good interior shots. I rarely buy things like that, but I did this and it's great. I think there were other books about the ships as well. I'll get the name of the book and post it if you like.

Dambrosi_
The book is called "Sunlight and Steel" and it doesn't have the price on it. However, my partner found it on Amazon for 22.95. So I figure 20-25. Hope this helps.
