Hey,
I was going looking at the oceanliners at www.maritimematters.com and I came across the S/S FRANCE (now S/S NORWAY). It said that she had an indoor swimming pool. what happened to it? where was it on board?

The other night the Norway was profiled on Ports of Call TV show and they showed a shot of the Spa and pool. It was very nice.
Now whether this was the old pool, I don't know. If it was like the Rotterdam V, the pool was probably on the lowest deck. I am sure someone who has been on the
France/Norway could help you.

The Norway still has her indoor swimming pool sort of. It's in the Roman Spa. France did have another pool on an aft deck that was covered with a glass dome. That pool became the dance floor in the new disco called Dazzles Disco when the France was converted to the Norway.

Oops, I was suppose to be in hiding....I slipped, just had to answer that question. Baby has not arrived yet....Tomorrow (Sunday the 4th) my wife is going into the hospital to be induced, because the baby likes it inside mommy's tummy too much and is over a week late. Good to see you back Malcolm.

Believe it or not, when NCL refurbished the S/S France, they installed two outdoor pools, one on the afterdeck and one in what was originally a "courtyard" for the inside, first-class cabins on the upper-midship deck.

As Barryboat stated, the former, below-decks pool was turned into the disco. You can still see the original portholes that used to look into this pool. Before someone posts that I am confused about the portholes, there are also portholes in the added mid-ship pool that allow you to see into this pool from the narrow walkway left in the former "courtyard" after this pool's installation.

The France did not have portholes looking into the pool, however the Norway does have a porthole looking into the pool from the disco. The actual location of the original pool aboard the France is where the dance floor is now on the Norway...The dance floor in Dazzles is built over the old swimming pool from the France. There are also porthole windows looking into the new pool on Sky Deck where the private courtyard use to be on the France. This slim cooridor that is currently on the Norway allowing people to look into the pool was not there during the days of the France.

FYI....Baby was born February 5th at 3:50pm, 7 pounds 14 ounces and 21 inches long. His first and middle name is: Jacob Riley! Or "Jake" Riley.

Cigars for all!!!!!!

I thought it would be cute to post a picture of a cigar though.

Cigars are the same if not more dangerous to your health then cigarettes but i still rather finish a dinner on the SS France or SS United States with a cigar in the smoking room and maybe a quick stop to the bar

Mrs. Barryboat is doing just fine...a little tired and sore but she's fine. It was a difficult labor of 17 hours and then the doctors decided to go in and take the baby through c-section so the baby wouldn't be injured through complications.

Here's a picture of Barryboat Junior....His first and middle name is: Jacob Riley

Barryboat! Congrats on the newpassenger, from a Rembrandt Refugee.

But I am also a past voyager on the "France" which is (as Falstaff Openshaw used to say "precisely why I am here!" This thread, that is. But I have not "written a poem.") [And anyone younger than say 60 would not have remember this memorable character from the "Fred Allen Show".]

However, - I digress.

All should know the news! Do post the arrival schedule in a less-obscure thread-corner in this magnificent conclave of maritime inlelligensia!
