The ss Norway arrived here in Miami this morning looking pristine! She has retained the same gold NCL logos on her funnels and the aft superstructure that she has sported for the last several years. Thank God they didn't put up the new logos! The area of the aft superstructure that was damaged in New York when she kissed the pier in Sept. has been repaired. I was not able to get close enough to take any pictures because the National Guard has blocked off the parking area on Watson Island, which is just across the channel from the ships.

Yes indeed she's back!

All's well that finally ends with a phone call! Thank heavens everything is fine.

So Malcolm, how long do you think she has?

I hope no one writes a check while I'm aboard!

Well its not a question of how long they can keep her going, it's more of a question of how long do they want to keep her afloat. That depends on how much longer she remains profitable!

She's a wonderful museum piece but is increasingly becoming outdated! I think she has less than five years service left, maybe only three or four. Just my personal opinion. I think the QE2 is also in her 'golden years'!

Fans are unlikely to agree with me!

Malcolm,

You can toss profitability out the door for '02 with $199/week cruise fares. Or $399 oceanview cabins and $699 suites.

I'd be surprised if they keep her past the 1st half of the year after reviewing her 1st quarter figures.

She cant have long.......

You just love digging it in don't you Timber? Anything to get rid of the
older ships so the new ugly type "pretender" cruise ships take over.
Sorry, it does'nt wash
with me.
You always "act" like you care about the older ships. But when it comes right down to it. I think you enjoy playing "rah!! rah!!" When we lose them.

Dambrosi,

First off; I was just being very "matter of fact". She can't have long and if anyone wants to sail on her, they should hurry up about it. Nowhere was I yelling "yipee" or being "rah rah".

Secondly, you shouldnt take my postings so personally or frought with emotion as you do. It's a ship; a floating machine.

And FYI, yes, I plan on sailing her this year.

Tim

Timber it' just that we're losing so many of the really good ones. And I do men good ones. Thirty years from now, I know I won't carry sentimental feelings for ships around
these days. In my opinion, they'll never measure up to the cream we had in the past. The bigger they are the MORE impersonal they become. So those are my feelings both ways. So, is your trip on the Grand Dame this year or next? Ours is in April,2002. Is our trip going to be done?
Or will NCL pull the plug on us?

HELP!!!

Its just a machine - and the Grand Canyon is just a hole in the ground!!!

The whole thing about vacationing is experience and enjoyment or it would not sell. I do not give a fig for the glass and brass palaces that pass for ships nowadays so I will savour the Norway for as long as I can. And when the class act that she and others of her age represent I will turn to other equally odd ball activities that this fabrication of genes and electrical impulses reacts to ( i.e. that I enjoy)
