This came as a total shock, I was under the impression that Mega West had an option on her for cruises in Australia??? Can anyone say what happened here! And whoever owns the ship should be ashamed of selling her to the breakers!!

I believe their are other ships which should be scrapped before this wonderful ship and yes it is indeed sad if true!

If this is the ship and I believe it was, that was docked next to us in Nassau at Christmas, she looked as though she was ready for the scrapyard. Her lifeboats were a mess, as was the whole ship - rust all over. I certainly would never sail on her. She may have been a wonderful ship years ago, but not any longer.

I thought the IslandBreeze/BRB III was docked in Freeport with the other ex. Premier fleet? I don't think it is that HARD to sandblast the rust and repaint it. Thats how ships get when they are in harsh climate. I was just wondering if older ships ever get new lifeboats?

Keitero - I may be completely wrong about the name of the ship, but it was Island something and Breeze sounded familiar. Will have to ask my daughter if she remembers.
Too bad I didn't take a picture of it.

I heard from MegaWest today.
And this is what they told me:
quote:
We are trying to stop the BRB III from going to the scrappers with another party in the UK. There is hope yet. If you know anyone with AU$2 million to invest in our venture we can save her immediately and be fully operational within four months.

Would love to hear from some big investors looking for good returns and safer than many of the blue chips.

Best regards
Hugh

So, it seems that MegaWest still has an interest in the
former Carnival Ship.

She never did get those. I don't remember where it was, but I asked this question and that was the answer of a reliable source.

I am not sure if she ever got the Thomson colors either. She wore either Dolphin or Thomson colors while in Premier service (pre-Big Red Boat). Never got the blue hull.

From Simplon Postcards.

A more convincing Thomson Cruises official card of IslandBreeze, although I believe she actually spent most of her charter in plain white.

We were on Island Breeze on one of her last cruises. This cruise was around the Canary Islands and was a lease to Thomson.

There is a picture of her on her wall along with all the other ships we've been on.

She was all white with a thin red stripe along the side. There was a big red P (for Premier) on the funnel.

I wish the old Dolphin cruise line were back in business.

So do I. The ISLAND BREEZE is sporting the red of her Premier days. Wish they were in business as well. If I had a scanner, I could scan a photo I did of her last year.

Here's a shot of her I took in Freeport two years ago. She's docked next to the Rembrandt.

Yep, that's her in the photo, taken from the FANTASY???? Because when I was on the FANTASY, that's just about the same angle. Only the former EUGENIO C is now sitting in front of it.
Then the former ISLAND BREEZE and the REMBRANDT.
Nice photo job, just like I would do.

Hi Nathan, OOOOpppsies, my mistake, when we were on the FANTASY, we were sitting there. I was wondering what the other ship was on the starboard side. Nice shot.

Certainly is, "C" or no "C".

She was laid-up there after Cape Canaveral went under, and stayed until they took her off for scrap.

When I saw her in Freeport on Oct.2nd, last yr. her red C was still on the smokestack. She was really a pretty ship, inside and out. Man, I miss her already.

Great pictures David! Thanks for sharing I wonder if any public rooms pre-FESTIVALE survived the Carnival rebuild?

Vineyard converted into cabins.
Orangery, Golden Room and Smoke Room convereted and renamed as Gaslight Saloon, Carnivale Lounge and Trade Winds Club respectively.

From this topic

Originally posted by Linerrich:

S.A. VAAL was completely gutted and transformed into the FESTIVALE, at least as far as public rooms go. Nothing of the original decor remained. Many cabins, however, were more or less kept the same; of course Carnival added substantial numbers of cabins in cargo hold areas, to increase capacity.

Thank you for posting those photos of the VAAL. I've said it before and I have to say it again.
The new ones have nice interiors, but the older ones will always have them beat on class and personality.
