Anyone hear something about United States being moved from her current position soon? Rumor has it that she might be moving within the next 4 to 6 weeks.

If the rumour would be true than does that mean NCL has chosen a ship yard and a conversion plan or just a cheaper place to dock the ship.

It would be fun if NCL would already install a bridge cam on Big U then we could monitor her position. (Just dreaming)

Best, Onno

After dropping off Norway perhaps the tugs will be back across the pond to collect her too.. well can hope. Sounds good if she does go somewhere soon.
Can't you pop over to see if there's any activity on her Joe? I expect some work would have to be done before she could be moved anywhere?

yes the United States would need a bit of work done on her first, but that depends on where they take her?? It's quite possible they may move her to a different location for cheaper docking fees??

But NCL I dont think would be starting her refurbishment yet, especially with the Norway situation. I hope Star Cruises has very deep pockets as the Norway is going to cost a pretty penny to repair, however if they put Diesels in her one must wonder if they are going to make her SOLAS compliant or re-flag her into the NCL America brand,as they would be required to only go by U.S. laws and not SOLAS if sailing strictly U.S.A. (like Independence)!!

Does SOLAS have trip-wires, at which point in a general set of repairs, they have to fully update the ship? IE, something akin to the U.S. ADA requirements that force somebody to fully update a building to current standards if major repairs of a given extent are made.

And while I'm at it, are SOLAS regs on par or better than those the U.S. has?

She is old and there is so many nice NEW ships out there, would you rather sail on some old rust bucket or a nice soft new ship making history and not just part of history. Come on you pay for the best and the best is new not old... There is a reason why ships retire !!!

REMEMBER SOLAS !!!!

I sailed the Sovereign of the Seas because she was and is a historic ship, not because she was the newest or biggest.

That trip hooked me on what I consider to be the best way to travel and take vacations.

I would love to travel on Norway, if they ever fix her and my schedule permits.

I absolutely will travel on the SS United States, because a little bit of history like that, is too much to miss.

Ships are not tissues. You don't use them once and toss them out. Old ships retire because in many cases they should. However in other cases, it is because nobody can figure out how to use them, or spend the money they need to, to keep them running.

There is a lot of life left in the Big U.

i feel that the ss norway has a
lot of character compare to a
lot of newer ships.
she is one of a kind and being
a former tranatlantic built like
a battleship. can take more abuse then todays cruiseships.
