Not sure what ship you're referring to there?

CARIBE I, of course is the former name of REGAL EMPRESS... If you mean Festival's CARIBE, she's not marketed in the US as far as I know, but I'd be delighted if she was... Have you seen her being sold in the US by anyone?

Ok, so the list isn't all that long. Unfortunate. I did not forget Marco Polo and Caronia or the Black Watch and Black Prince. It wasn't too long ago that there were many more.

I think you mean UNIVERSE EXPLORER?

She is used full-time as a floating university for Semester at Sea. So while still in active service she's not a cruise ship per se.

One of the most moving things I've ever experienced happened in Nassau last January. I was there on a 4nt Majesty of the Seas cruise and
Universe Explorer was there as well. It was the departure for her then latest "semester" and the pier was filled with parents, family and friends giving the students a grand send off. I mean about 300 people! As the ship pulled away, the crowd followed the ship down the pier, waving, holding up signs, taking photos, and, of course, sobbing. I've got to admit, I joined in.....including the sobbing part. Here was this lovely, classic ship, her rails lined with about 600 students....most just out of high school... and they were going to be gone for about three months.

Most of the crowd stayed on the pier, arms around each other, and just watched the ship disappear.......it was very powerful.

A few more that linguistic minded US people should be aware of :
ssEmerald (marketed in the UK by Thompson)
ssOceanic(marketed in Spain for Pullmantur)
ssOcean Explorer1(hotel ship for Olympics 2004)
Please note that ssEmerald is the former Grace line Santa Rosa.
She still have many of her original fittings.
Sadly, Thompson buying mvNoordam means bye bye soon! So, hurry!

Thanks, Moodus2, you beat me to the punch!

The DELTA QUEEN is truly the grand dame of the American Merchant Fleet. She made her maiden voyage from San Francisco to Sacramento on June 2, 1927. The MISSISSIPPI QUEEN departed on her maiden voyage from Cincinnati to New Orleans returning to Hawesville, KY. begining late July 1976. The AMERICAN QUEEN is a new comer with her maiden voyage starting in Pittsburgh for New Orleans on June 28, 1995.

Can you tell me which rooms remain original? Is she worth taking the effort to book in UK as a German?
You made me curious.

Actually, she will be taking a break from The Semester at Sea routine later this year when she will offer a 14 day New Years cruise for cruise passengers - no students. The cruise is from December 27, 2004 to January 12, 2005 and will include a Panama Canal transit.

Joe;

The Universe Explorer is doing a 14 day cruise in Dec 2004, interesting who will operate it? As I know The company that operates it now doesn't really do much in anything but Educational stuff!

Maybe World Explorer will use her to operate a Charter Cruise??

Who knows??
