January 31: BARCELONA (ex INFANTE DOM HENRIQUE, VASCO DA GAMA, SEAWIND CROWN) apparently skipped her appointment with the hungry Alang shipbreakers and was seen at19h00 local time today transiting the Singapore Strait en route to China. Described accordingly, "The old girl looked quite stunning as she steamed majestically past in the early evening twilight, lit up like a christmas tree, including all her dressing lights. From a distance the rust and neglect were not visible and it appeared for all the world as if she were just on another cruise." The local corrrespondent was on board the MV LEISURE WORLD (former SKYWARD) visiting with the staff captain, who raised the BARCELONA's officer of the watch on VHF. He was told the one-time crack Portuguese liner is heading for a shipyard in Guangzhou, where she will undergo a conversion. The BARCELONA's officer seemed quite certain the ship will not be going for scrap.

WOW...This is definentley good news for ship lovers worldwide!! The "Barcelona" Seawind Crown is NOT GOING TO THE Breakers!! Cool!!I don't think they have breakers in China??

It seems possible that someone bought the ship before she reached Alang! Hey...you know maybe she will be going to the people who had reportedley bought the Albatross, then didn't?? I wonder! As it was reported she was to go to that area??

But a conversion in China...wonder what's up???

Anyone know any more info on the Seawind Crown's future??

Anyway looks like someone has saved her

I wonder if their is anyone who could tell us the actual plans for the Barcelona"Seawind Crown"?

Is it certain that she was originally sold to the breakers before she left Barcelona?? And where could she be headed??? I think a Casino ship would be a good use for her, but maybe she is just going to China for a conversion, we dont know for sure if she will stay in Asia or where she will go!

Maybe their is someone in Guangzho China(or whatever that place is called) that could tell us more! Is their a shipyard their???

I'm not sure if Peter Kengo from Maritime Matters would know as he pretty much has contacts all over the world!!
