In these times of high uncertainties about the future of this masterpiece that SS FRANCE is, two weeks ago or so I began to 3D-model this fantastic ship as a tribute to her. For a change, I'm creating nothing this time.

That's a long task and the job is far to be achieved.
Any designer/modeler here will measure the real task it is, especially because of the numerous, details, the irregular curves and the sheer of the ship (rectilinear or orthogonal projections or homotheties almost always impossible so nearly every thing has to be modeled and placed separately) and the enormous amount of necessary searches to make all of that really true and close to reality.

Detailed exteriors are planned to be completed by the end of this month or soon after.
Isometric and detailed interiors...after.
Animations and interactive website...again after.

Work is in progress and I'll post some updates if necessary.

Wow Dominique, what could I say more?

It’s looking fabulous already, I know the amount of work that goes in to such a project, but I also know you are skilled enough to do it. I recently updated my QM2 model as well and it is rather fun to build in virtual space. (well virtual space has the all power full Ctrl Z command, which I often wishes I have when making a real model!)

Anyway I whish you much luck in making the model and I can’t wait to see the funnels.

Onno

Great! You really can see how sleek her hull is. Her aft decks were so beautiful and graceful when she was 1st built. Did France keep her white painted stripe at the boot topping most of her career? I have seen photos with it and without.

Thanks to all of you for your nice replies, much appreciated.

Lasuvidaboy, from what I can gather, the white painted stripe was there during almost all of her commercial career, except for the last one or two years and during her 5-year lay up at Le Havre.

Below, an update:

I think Le France is a better designed ship than Le Normandie, especially if one is travelling tourist class.

Compare that long, lean, and sleek hull with the box hulls of the current generation of ships. It is to weep.

I can't really add much more to the above posts. Your 3D model is simply stunning. I forgot just how beautiful she really is without that hideous hat NCL stuck on top of her

Oh those lines!!!! oy!!
