Surfing on the net, via the link with the interior views of very different ships ships interiors
which was posted here some days ago
I found a link to the results of an "expedition" to an abandoned great lakes liner, which looks to me a splendid example of US 50's design

There are lot of interesting abandoned rusting liners in the US : SS United States, NS Savannah, SS Aquarama...

I tought she has been srapped. I always found her ugly, but geting older I start to like this 50ies design.

I can’t say Aquarama is a “beautiful” ship but she sure is very interesting and proportionally unique. Talk about a dummy funnel.

I like her funnel, that's about it. Somewhere online I recall reading a story, by a couple of chaps, who a few years ago, climbed aboard one night using a hook & rope. They took some interior shots too. Will have to see if I can find it. Made good reading IIRC.

I recall seeing an old Matson Line advert from the 1940s and the artist's impression of their Lurline featured funnels/superstructure very similar to Aquarama's single funnel. Of course Lurline had very conventional stacks in reality but I love the cool streamlined versions in the advert. What a great name 'Aquarama' is-it reflects the stylish period in which she sailed. I also don't understand why there are so many old rusting passenger ships in US waters, wonder why this one has not been scrapped.

Greetings all,

IT is good to see interest in the ship Aquarma aka Marine Star. She is currently in the beginning stages of a campaign to be coverted into a combination Christian University at Sea School - similar to the secular "Semestar at Sea " program.

The name of the project is the Marine Star SEAS School Project. One difference will be that there will be a mission component involving mission agency partnerships and students attending the school.

They are looking for a Christian School partner to administer the education component.

Check this out at www.marinestar.org This will take much prayer, and is not impossible with God.

Another "Sharp Ship", the AQUARAMA/MARINE STAR, which has been languishing near Buffalo, NY at Lackawana, is scheduled to depart for Alang under tow in the very near future, according to Indian sources.
