Hi all

I found some current pictures of Norway made on 25th this month. Here is the link to the German forum:http://www.f25.parsimony.net/forum63730/messages/18848.htm

My German isn’t that great but what I have read is that the ship theoretically could depart tomorrow or in some weeks time.

I have telephoned with Johan and if Norway is still around for some weeks and if it is possible to get close to the ship he would be interested in Going to Bremerhaven during a weekend.

I would also be interested!

The text on the hompage says (it`s a little bit of slang):
"Some night views of the Norway and the Aurora. There were no activites, and also the expected battery of containers was not there. Only one refigerator cooed container stands at the front of the ship. I will go there tomorrow to see what is going on"

Those are just wonderful photos. As Dambrosi states, this is beyond comprehension.

I plan to do a complete Norway memorial on my web site including photos from my 2001, 1993 cruises along with my mother and father's cruise when they sailed in 1980. . . .

. . just typing those last lines gets tears in my eyes. Am I just TOO emotional over this!?!?

These photos, knowing when they were made, are really hard to look at. She not only is in a surprisingly good condition, but being iluminated and with details like the palm trees on the promenade deck one believe she is just preparing to sail away.... (which somehow is actually the case.. )

If I had the time, I'd love to go, too.

Pity that Bremerhaven is so far from any major airport.

DFDS Ferries go there:

Mini CruiseBreak to Bremerhaven- with 30% off!
From £52 per person Departing from Harwich

This break is just right for a relaxing romantic break or perfect for fun and activity – because it's exactly what you want it to be.

It includes two nights on board the m.s. Duchess of Scandinavia, and a coach transfer into Bremerhaven.

Why not begin with a great meal in one of our restaurants. There's nothing quite like taking your time over a meal whilst at sea. Then a spot of shopping, some live music or maybe a flutter at the casino.

You really will be spoilt for choice – and the great thing is, you can do as little or as much as you please. Take in the town of Bremerhaven on day two, exploring all this wonderous maritime city has to offer.

Back onboard you have all the entertainment you could ever wish for. Dine in luxury at the Blue Riband à la carte restaurant, or how about the dinner buffet, an ultimate feast. Sip on a cocktail while listening to a live band in the lounge.

And with a cinema, casino, shops and cafe, the only problem you'll have is deciding what to do first!

Your 2-night Mini CruiseBreak includes:
Two nights on board in your choice of cabin
Coach transfers to and from Bremerhaven

www.dfdsseaways.co.uk

I expect you to bring back a full report on her condition and photo's!

I've posted this before, but it seems particularly appropriate now:

About two years ago during May of 2003, I remebering looking at a Norwegian cruise lines brochures and seeing Norways picturees on the back, I realized it was the longest cruise ship in those days, and I've always wanted to sail on her just once. I don't even know what to say about the Norway now, "too bad" sounds good. In those pictures she seems like she is in perfect comdition, how much would it cost NCL to just fix the boiler up?????????? Too bad, I'll probably never have a chance to sail on any of thoose beautiful liners that once sailed back and forth across the Atlantic.

Well here is the response I got from NCL Bremerhaven office:

"There is no chance to go on board SS Norway. She'll leave Bremerhaven soon. Hope these Infos will help a little."

So we still know nothing.
I bet if we pretended to be rich business man with the idea to buy the ship we could get a free lunch and a tour of the ship and afterwards we nicely decline because we can’t see a profit in it.

Shame, but only to be expected really. It's "who you know" too I expect. They probably think people wandering around will pick up everything not nailed down as well. From reports of the goings on on Norway's "Final Tranatlantic" people do such things.

I have a EURO5 note for the fund Onno; if you add similar we could at least have a real pot to show as being legitimate purchasers

Kelly, I believe you did not read the reports abouts the explosion.

The asbestos has been spread over two decks.

To remove/seal that asbestos is very, very expensive.

And, . . . as I heard today, it might be possible Germany violated some EU regulations by allowing a ship on which asbestos has been spread, into one of her ports.
I wonder if the NORWAY is allowed to depart from Bremerhavn in this condition.

Also other systems might need some mantainance. Remeber the incident with the sprinkler system.
Alltogether this is probably too much, even if one wants to rebuild her as static hotel/museum ship.
(But I guess the asbestos problem is the dominant thing beside her boilers)

At the end of this week I will be in Germany (Berlin) and then taking a train from Berlin to Amsterdam early next week.

Does anyone know if I get anywhere near Bremerhaven on this journey? I am guessing not but perhaps a local might know? . . .

Thanks!
