Or I should say Cruise Ship Memorabilia??? I have her postcards, especially the ones they came out with her in the big blue border. That was the Pre face lift of her deck just below the first funnel.
I've got postcards, luggage tags, glassware. Menus, 2 scrapbooks that have her on them. One is a big white scrapbook with her photo. The other is a blue scrapbook with her in gold.
The piece I love the most cost me $47.00. It's a lead crystal set of shotglasses with a crystal decanter of her etched into all three pieces. There is a crystal plate that matches it, but I did'nt get to get it in time. Wanted to get it on our trip of NOv. 9th, 2003. But that explosion took care of that.
The items are made from Burns Crystal. The etching is just lovely. It's in a blue box, with the inside of the box with blue fabric to show off the etchings on the shotglasses and decanter. But, I wanted that plate....POOOOOOOH BEAR!!!!
I also have a gold leaf rendering of her on special paper. A menu set when you could buy them smaller, with her and the 5 smaller fleetmates. So, that's just a little SS NORWAY, that I have. Besides all of those wonderful Kodak moments that are now on Webshots Community.
So, what do any of you have????

I have the usual glassware, postcards, models, t-shirts, etc. from the NORWAY. But an interesting "souvenir" in my collection is from the ship itself.

During one of my cruises on her, while sitting in the tender at St.Thomas next to her towering hull, I felt something land on my shoulder. I was dreading that it was a seagull dropping, when to my surprise, I found a chip of blue paint, about 3" in diameter, that had fallen from her hull. This I have kept until this day! (I also have a chip of black paint from the hull of the SS UNITED STATES in Norfolk.)

I think I have more memorabilia from NORWAY than any other ship. It's really great stuff! Original brochures from 1979, menus, ashtrays, glasses, pens, postcards, key chains, etc. My favorite is the inaugural book simply entitled 'NORWAY'. I have a few of those as they gave one to everyone that sailed on NORWAY during her first month or so, and I inherited my grandmothers and brothers.

I also have some original French Line hangers, which were left on-board NORWAY and quickly disappeared after her first month or so in service.

NORWAY's gift shops offered so much cool stuff to buy, and NORWAY had her own logo and it was on everything. The closest thing I can think of to compare today is QM2 and all her logo items. NORWAY had a very large gift shop called "Upstairs at the downstairs", and it was two stories connected by it's own spiral staircase.

Great ship, great memories, and great memorabilia!

Ernie

For SeaWander......you have photos of the NORWAY at Solent....I'd love to see them........almost forgot I do have 2 SS NORWAY towels, 1994 and in 2002, I think???
And they replaced the Upstairs at the Downstairs area for the new LOGO shop I think??? Have to look at my past photos to be sure. But, I don't recall a winding stairwell in that shop.

The "Upstairs" portion became the Logo Shop, and the "Downstairs" portion became an annex to the Casino, packed with slot machines.

I believe "Upstairs at the Downstairs" was a nightclub on FRANCE. I think it was called "L'Atlantique" or something along those lines. It was actually a duel area that served both first and tourist class if I'm not mistaken. The spiral staircase existed to connect the two classes, and apparently this was an easy way for Tourist Class to sneak into First!

Her last voyage #202 from Le Havre left on 30 August 1974. She called at New York on 5 Sept. and turned around for the return portion of her voyage. She arrived at Le Havre on 11 Sept. 1974, which is when the crew took over and held her hostage. This was the beginning of the end.

Actually her last scheduled trip (NY to Cannes) would have been on 18 October 1974, but that of course never took place.

I have a few SS Norway Menus and daily programmes etc. Although I only cruised on her once, the memory of her is my prize possession.

To me she is the last of the great purpose built ‘Ocean Liners’ from the era of ‘ships of state’. Although converted to a cruise ship, her heart felt more like an original ‘Ocean Liner’ than any other ship that I have cruise on.

Well it is not much of a souvenir, but when my sister and I where kids we found a book called modern ships in pile of old paper. I can’t remember it myself but apparently I was fascinated by this book and kept it. It was the first time I seen the France (probably also the first time I seen an ocean liner) The book is practically falling apart but the cover shows a full spread drawing of the France going to dock at the NY pier for the first time. Inside is a cutaway drawing of the ship and some more illustrations of interiors and exterior.

Here are a couple of scans.

Upstairs was used for First class Cabaret de L' Atlantique and Downstairs was used for Boutique on the Norway.
It seemed that the spiral staircase was used for boutique's guest only.
and became as follows

France was originally scheduled to arrive at New York on September 4th and depart on the following day.
Did France cross in 6 days?

French Line announced its Autumn Caribbean cruises from New York on or after October 30.
However, In July, French Line made the decision that they would withdraw the France from service with effect from October 25, 1974

ssFrance speed was reduced to 24 knots in 1974 so she crossed the Atlantic in 6 days instead of 4.
However, President Pompidou, her best supporter, died tragically in May 1974, sealing her fate.
Valery Giscard d' Estaing preferred Concorde, which he used as his private jet!
Plans were afoot to turn ssFrance as a cruise ship, but CGT(the Union not the French lines!), called for that disastrous strike off Le Havre...
Monsieur Akkram Ojjeh, a businessman bought the ship for museum purposes, but soon sold it to Knut Klosters with a nice profit.

In 1974, France was originnaly scheduled to cross on Eastbound crossings in 7 days between New York* and Bremerhaven via Southampton with overnight stay at Le Havre and Westbound crossings in 6 days because of no overnight stay enroute.

New York* was scheduled to call overnight as a terminated port.

French Line seemed to revise its schedules to cut Bremerhaven calls and no overnight stay at New York.

My favorites are my two models of the ship in my perferred 1:1250 scale. I have one depicting the ship in original 1980 condition, and another showing her in 2000 condition. Here is the newer model shown with the QM2 behind.
