Ocean Liners, I sincerely respect all of the knowledge you bring to these board, but what is the point of all these threads which simply contain scans of brochures and only statements, and no questions and or new information?

I also agree, that anyone who has nice pictures should post them! A threads dedicated to a certain ship makes sense to me, as this makes it easier to find informations.

Does anyone know, when the Royal Viking Sun got the retractable Z-drive? (Compass thurster is the brand name, I guess) I would love to get some more informations on that (plans, photos etc.)

Are there any rooms that are still pretty much the same now as when she was RVS?

Mike, Have you seen Ernst's Album

You may find the informations and photos of Prinsendam and Fellow cruise talker shipcafe's site

Shipcafe wrote: The Oak Room maintains a rustic and comfortable aura hosting the faux fireplace that was originally initiated aboard the Royal Viking Sun.

As there seems to be interest, and as the selection of pictures in the first album has only been motivated to approximate the "requests" of the discussion, I have posted some more pictures - still not so good quality, but this time already delinterlaced and filtered - Royal Viking Sun

No - we talk about Piraeus. One more which should be easy now, one more a bit more difficult and one "very difficult" (I am not even sure how she was called back then...)

(BTW - at this occasion QE2, Vistafjord (just passing by) and Royal Viking Sun were at Istanbul at the same day)

Many flaws in the design of RV Sun have been
mentioned, but one has not. From the Crow's
Nest [Stella Polaris Room], the bow cannot be seen
which to me is a major flaw. It is a wonderful
room otherwise however.

Go back to R.V. Sun's topic,

But the rest of the deck was a bit weired - all was arranged in a very strange manner. e.g. the room for games and the very small library "behind" shops; nobody found the cinema and the wine bar with the fire place.

The Norway Lounge was located at forward on Norway Deck.

The Royal Arcade was located just behind Reception Desk on Norway Deck.

The Wine Bar was located next to the Oak Room.

Thanks everyone for the great, classic photos of the RVL Sun. Personally I'd love to see more of the same but of her early predecessors in RVL days like the SKY, SEA, etc too!
