Currently, Queen Mary 2.

All time fav, Normandie.

Ben, what is that space above the bridge on Zaandam? I don't remember Volendam having that,...was it an addition?

The space is the greenhouse/spa the room actually house the fitness room. The somewhat ugly deckhouse is added to almost all ships in the fleet exept the Vista class and Prinsendam.
If you see the extension in real it was not al that bad. Only the free view of the bow frome Crow's Nest is obstructed you canont see the bow anymore.

Have a smal movie of the Rotterdam departure on my site. Wich you cane see the new addition very clear.
Rotterdam depart frome Rotterdam
Please notice that the host have added sometimes and random advertisement before the movie. The movie start after the advert is ended.

Greetings Ben.
p.s. my one time favorit is the t.s.s. Statendam 3 of 1929.

I enjoyed QE2 enormously, though perhaps on Oceanic the overall atmosphere was more pleasant
(I can't decide ;-)

Russ - Volendam is getting the Greenhouse Spa next month when she goes into drydock. I'll let you know what I think of it when I return after my Christmas cruise. Veendam is getting it in January. I certainly hope it doesn't ruin the appearance of the ship.

I think my favourite ships so far are the Volendam and Rotterdam.

I couldn't name an overall favourite, as I have enjoyed quite different ships for entirely different reasons. I like them all and love a few

Ben and sympatico, thanks for the info.

I must admit, I loved Volendam as well. Sailing on her was one of the best cruises I've ever had.

Having never cruised (yet - I'm working on one for next year) I haven't got a favourite that way. From just being a ship enthusiast my all time favourite is Canberra (Norway a very close 2nd). Current favourite is Freedom of the Seas which I just fell in love with as soon as I saw the float-out picture.

It is actually not necessary that one has travelled with a ship to have a favourite ship.
Nevertheless, altough I have fallen in love recently and can now name a very clear favourite of mine enjoying ships is finally not a competition and not depending a ranking of ships which on the other hand does not mean that it is not great fun to discuss such rankings in an internet forum.

Pam has an interesting point...

It is also hard to differentiate between a favorite cruise ship and the influence a favorite cruise experience has over your decision. I wonder how much influence they have over each other in our decision picking a favorite ship?

Say if we were on our favorite ship but it was our worse cruise (weather, cancelled ports, lousy or rude passengers) would it still be our favorite? For instance if your favorite ship was the SUMMITT, but on the 2nd time around it turned out to be your worse cruise EVER, would it still be your favorite ship? Would that bad experience alter your perception? Does your favorite change every time you experience a NEW ship, or until the next newbuild is lauched?

We all enjoy different cruise ships and cruise lines for different reasons, not that we are ranking them, just expressing our individual choices based on our expectations, life styles, and personal experiences. One persons favorite cruise may be anothers nightmare on the exact same cruise.

It may be that there are other lines and ships we have not experienced and then they will become our favorite when we get there, but for now...

I also have several favorites for different reasons. Hard to pick just one from the dozens upon dozens of cruises I have been on. I could narrow it down, but not just one.

My top five cruise ship/experience would be:

Spirit of Oceanus - Cruise West
Galaxy - Celebrity Cruises
Royal Princess - Princess Cruises
Queen Mary 2 - Cunard Ltd
Rotterdam VI - Holland-America

Hard to say, although I'm feeling a bit partial to the Nordic Prince. That was a lovely little ship. I really enjoyed my cruise on that vessel. The favorite that I want to sail on is unquestionably QM2, although the Royal Clipper is up there as well (but now you're talking about a tall ship).

We had a tall ship arrive yesterday. It was passing Hythe pier about 4pm just as I got down there. No idea what it was though.

I second that! In fact most of my favorite liners were Italian (sorry Malcolm).

Agreed, but I was being patriotic!

I think the Delta Queen was fabricated in Scotland and assembled in the USA.
