I have received some photos of the s.s. Rotterdam, painted in her original dove-grey hull with yellow stripe.
With permission of the source, I have placed them on my website.

Well, I am not 'used' to it - and the color is so new and pristine that she somehow looks like a model.

She is now how I remember her when I first saw her at the fitting-out berth at the shipyard in 1959.

There are a few more pictures at this Hempel Paints Site. She does look glorious. Thanks to the Rotterdam Foundation for all their hard work in seeing her along. I can't wait to head over to Rotterdam to see the ship next year some time.

I am surprised to see that are leaving the propellers on or so it seems looking at the Hempel pictures. In my view this just keeps her more authentic!

She will be towed to Poland and then finally Rotterdam. I have not heard that she will be a school. I read that she will be used as a hotel, convention center, museum and wonderful tourist attraction.

Leaving dry-dock was scheduled for 25 January.
Depending on the weather, she will depart (under tow) from Cadiz between 3 and 8 February.

There is indeed a school involved when the ship is in Rotterdam.

The only figure that was released was the cost of buying the ship, that was 1.75 M Euro.
I have not heard about the other expenses.

That price seems so low-not even scrap value. Interesting as that is the price for a nice (not fantatsic) home in L.A.. Then again I am sure the refit will cost at least 10 times that amount so that has to be taken into account. Willem, thanks for keeping us all informed!!

The ship was bought in 2003 by RDM (pre-financed by the Rotterdam Port Authority) for only 5 million euro.
In 2004 there was a financial scandal, which costed the Rotterdam Port Authority quite some millions of euros.
RDM invested quite some money while the ship was still in Freeport, paid the voyage to Gibraltar, paid for the asbestos cleaning and paid for being at the yard in Gibraltar.
Than they went broke and HCO2 intended to take over and invested also in the ship. Than HCO2 decided not to go on with the project, and than there was a threat that the ship might be sold to the scrapers.
Luckily Woonbron and Eurobalance made that offer which was accepted by the Rotterdam Port Authority, who seem to be the big loser.
The refit will cost a lot of money. 28.000 liter of paint is not cheap

Depending on the weather, the ship will leave Cadiz between 3 and 8 February and the best spot to see her will be Calais.
I hope to be able to be there.
