Just to let you all know, France is being towed to Dubai, as they are still looking for buyers.

Hmmm...two posts within hours. One, from bulbousnose with a published report that the Norway is enroute to Alang and the scrappers and this one saying she's headed for Dubai for possible use as housing for immigrant workers.

Seems to me the first may have more credibility given how much has already been stripped from the interior and hauled away...

Any bets?

It makes sense that she could be used for a few years as an accomodation ship. She could easily accomodate 3000 plus workers (and be completely trashed in the process) before finally scrapped. The lounges, theater and dining rooms could be converted into huge bunk rooms like liners during WWII.

I'll be the first to put in my bet.
She's going to Alang.
Sorry Jonathan,
Though the once grand Le France/Norway will be truely missed... Her time has finally come.

In current form she barely resembles her youthful past. She has been opened up altered and operated on so many times that there really is not much left from her former glory days. Her heart is now in such bad shape that repair is impossible. She has served a long and glorious life but her time has come. Let her go with some dignity. And let her go now, before that dignity is lost.

The idea of watching her torn apart on the beaches of Alang will not be pleasing. But in reality it is a natural process that all ships who survive sucessful careers will face. Nothing is forever. I would much rather our beloved Le France/Norway be sent to the breakers than to watch her become some sort of delapitated rusting pile of crap, barely keeping itself a float, and in such bad condition that it's residents resort to deficating on the floor and such... Let the Blue Lady keep her dignity.

I don't think anyone understood correctly.

I didn't say she was being brought to Dubai as an accomadation ship.

She is being re-routed there while they try to find a buyer, rather than havning her floating around the middle of the ocean. Alang is still weeks away.

Well, good news for those that want to save her. The news piece I posted could also be incorrect as things seem to be happening quickly. Anyway let's see what transpires.

Neither did lasuvidaboy. He simply suggested a possible use for Norway once she gets to Dubai. OTOH, maybe Gillette has a manufacturing fccility in Dubai.

I think Patsy is the closest, they are just biding their time until they bring her to Alang. Or sell her.

Hi All

According to the local news for Dubai, on various websites, there is thousands of refugees stuck there from Iraq who can not get home due to there still being problems in their own country.

British and American forces are also preventing them from returning.

It could be possible that the ex ss Norway could be used to accommodate them as they are said to be in the docks area with no proper accommodation.

Of course. Don't worry, there will be a delay. There seems to be a legal issue brewing. It's possible they won't scrap her until all her hazardous material is removed by someone who is competent. At who's expense I don't know.

Well as long as she stays in Dubai for a while I dont care what they are doing.(except scrapping, burning, or sinking her.) It will give us more time to get her.

According to this news site, the Supreme Court of India has directed that Blue Lady will not be allowed to enter the Indian sovereign jurisdiction till the Supreme Court’s appointed committee of technical experts gives its opinion.

'Blue Lady won't be allowed into India'

I read somewhere on another site that the committee opinion is expected on July 7th.

A reprieve perhaps??
