The shipping route from her anchorage on Malaysia's west coast to Dubai will have round India's southern tip and up the west coast toward the Persian Gulf, passing within 250-300 miles of Alang...lets see what happens she she gets to that point.

Well I guess her fait is sealed as even Marine Transportation Consultants have givin up on her. Now reads that she is heading for India oneway hope Peter gets some good stuff from her. Were they ever thinking she would be used again if they took the stair tower out of her? Should be so great pictures of her death (meaning the dismantling not her end).

Steeplechase, From not just this one, but from numerous posts you have made, you have come off as cantankerous and your puerile comments have bothered me and as I have observed, others.
These comments continually show a disregard for not only the people on CT but also for old ships, which as you may know most everyone here takes very seriously.

If you find us so displeasent, and despise classic ships so much perhaps this is not the correct place for you.

Exactly, Ernst. Several of us have mentioned the possibility of her having a 'maritime accident' since she left Germany, me included.

I get the impression that slow motion decomissioning of the Norway is not very good for the mood in this forum.
Someone should tell a joke.

I love the old ships and I like reading the posts of Cruise Talkers, however reading posts of some cruise talkers who act as if they have anything more than a good ideal for what may happen to a ship such as Norway is a waste of time. Some of these guys here our sharp as nails but those who talk as if they have any money (ie millions) to do anything with these old ships is adolescent. The sinking of Norway would be marvolous verses being cut into a million pieces in my book. To the cruise talkers that I have met they know that I have put my time into supporting the Big U as my monitary contribution. I am not just starting trouble here I am voicing my opinon maybe just not the same as all others. Thanks for the support.

P.S. Mr Normandie I would rather see Norway as a reef or cut up in a million pieces than a Mexican Party boat just for the record.

The Indian Express of 25 May reports as follows:

Unlike the French carrier Clemenceau, the Blue Lady, which also uses asbestos for insulation, is likely to be allowed to enter Indian waters.

A technical committee set up by the Supreme Court will on Thursday submit report in which it has recommended that the ship be allowed to dock off the ship-breaking yard in Alang, on the Gujarat coast.

Environment group Greenpeace had raised an alarm about the Blue Lady, saying it contains 900-1,200 tonnes of asbestos, which Alang was incapable of handling safely.

The ship is already on way to India and is expected to arrive in a day or two.

The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) will inspect the ship for hazardous material and verification of its inventory of asbestos used on board. The board will then decide if the ship may be broken in Alang.

Last Saturday, the technical committee had heard the Indian buyer of the ship, GPCB, and the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB).

Buyer Rajiv Reniwal had told the committee he had contracted the Luthra Group for disposing of the asbestos on board, and that the group had the expertise to do so in a safe manner. The asbestos would be buried in a specially-dug landfill, he said.

In January, the buyers of the Clemenceau had made the same "safe disposal" argument. But the Supreme Court' banned that ship from entering Indian waters.

I agree. We've mentioned this earlier in another SS NORWAY thread. However, this being in the international spotlight I just wonder whether anyone would try something like that.

So, is she being stopped from getting to Alang yet?? Or will she sink before she gets there? If she does, i will remindme of those who allowed the former FEDERICO C go down in Jan. 2000. That was an insurance scam right there . This has been terrible publicity if you ask me. I wold be embarassed to work for NCL.

Well as it appears that she probably will not be saved. I think we have to focus on preventing her from being allowed into India. Perhaps they will find some other purpose for her or maybe theyll sink her but It will be better than having her scrapped.

J.S.S.Normandie I believe earlier this week you chastised me for wishing Norway to sink now you have done a 360 and agree that she should be sunk? Have I been that much of an influence? Thats great. Welcome to my world now let's get on to bigger problems how hard will it be to get one of these flat bottom cruisers up on the beach in 20 years? Not very I bet. Any early wagers on the first mega cruise ship on the beach?

G,day All,
I have some friends in Dubai who have been checking out about the Blue Lady for me.
Yes the tug's are from Dubai and some thought had been made to have her docked there to be used as a static hotel etc, not unlike the Queen Mary at Long Beach, But the area they would need her to go to is no where deep enough, so the idea was dismissed, Sorry to say.
Now Norway is on the west coast of India not to far from Alang.. There aint no where else left for her to go I'm afraid.. Baker

I love being cantankerous. In the reply you said that I show disregard for other Cruise Talkers because I want a sudden leak in Norway? Now you want Norway to be a Reef sounds like good judgment to me. I knew we could be friends! How about we meet on Regal Empress for a drink in January?
