That's a great post card, Pam, and very historic, too! In the top photo we can see CAMITO and GOLFITO, perhaps the bow of CARMANIA or FRANCONIA? And the stern perhaps of ANDES or S.A. ORANJE?

The bottom photo shows us QUEEN ELIZABETH ( I think) in the far distance. Closer in are some Union-Castle ships and P.& O., but I can't make them out. I know that ARCADIA was laid up next to CANBERRA, so that may be the large white ships behind the 3 U-C ships.

Rich, I do prefer your second editing of CARMANIA or FRANCONIA for the green bow instead of your first guess as CARONIA!

To be more accurate, this is the CARMANIA

In the foreground, this is the ANDES.

Then, Elders & Fyffes' "banana boats" CAMITO and GOLFITO of course, then, from lef to right, GOOD HOPE CASTLE, REINA DEL MAR, EDINBURGH CASTLE.

Behind, the ARCADIA and CANBERRA.

Again farther, the S.A. VAAL.

Then, looks like the QUEEN ELIZABETH indeed.

Right--actually CARONIA returned from a Med. cruise shortly after this photo was taken, and she was rafted just this side of CARMANIA for the duration.

In addition i think it is the Windsor Castle that is in the KGV graving dock. I have a picture dated 18 June 1966 which shows the Windsor Castle in 108 and she probably was moved into KGV dock after that picture was taken.

Many thanks everyone; that saved me a lot of time looking them up I'd never have got the UCL vessels correct. There is definitely something back there hidden by QE.

The 'Victory' ship on the left, what's that?

I can be 'clever' and announce that this postcard shot was taken from the decks of Queen Mary [I assume]. I have only ever seen overhead views before of this time, from the other direction and of course the one which I remembered being in the CT archives, here, where I got the QM idea from.

Thanks to the 'lurker' for sending the card.

Also the small red funnel vessel in the middle, is that anything significant?

Just a guess--could it be one of the old Red Funnel ferries to the Isle of Wight?

Its cetainly is a Red Funnel vessel but I think it is one of the two tug/tenders either the Gatcombe or the Calshot. Of the two the funnel shape is nearer that of the Gatcombe which became a tender in Bermuda in 1969.

Even though you can't see her that well the great and wonderous Queen Elizabeth looks beautiful.

Thank you. Having checked out a picture of Gatcombe, it must indeed be her, everything matches.
