Madagascar appears to left Durban, she left her normal berth a couple of days ago and does not appear to be elsewhere in the harbour , anyone have news of where she may have gone to ? Alang ?

She must have cleared her debts here prior to sailing as she was strictly speaking under arrest.

Answered myown question, she has been moved next to the Sea Rescue Centre. By chance while I was down on The Point bumped into one of the crew, she still has not been sold and no one knows what will happen in the future, he invited us on board and it is clear that while they are trying to keep her in good nick another very significan trefit will be required if she is ever going to return to service, rust everwhere, the furnishings are worse than ever and the galley and dining room resemble a dark hole, disappointing but not unexpected. Ironically she is now berthed at the site of Durbans future new cruise terminal.

the Madagascar is she or can she be solas compliant for 2010? I think she would do very well on Long Round Caribbean Cruises and also exploring South America up to Rio! No one does those and even Marco Polo style cruises would work!

Yes she could be solas complaint, however she is simply not suited for any deep sea voyages she bounces around like a ball on every wave she hits, she has no stabilizers. Even caribbean seas could be too much for her pax in moderately bad weather.

From what I saw her galleys need total renewal as do all bathrooms and probably cabins. The limited public areas are bland bland bland and the service areas need replacement, however her engine room looks great, would be ideal for the great lakes or seas with lots of islands close by. Frankly the money the needs to be spent probably means she will struggle to find a buyer.

Hi Mike

Sounds as if she would make a good ship for cheap cruises in the Australian Barrier Reef or the Fijian Islands.

Mike, is the "Indian Ocean Cruises" of Durban with Madagascar, the same outfit as the "Indian Ocean Cruises" of the UK, Cyprus & Goa with Ocean Odyssey? There is no connection to SA on the 2nd website, but no names and it seems ominous to me.

Madagascar in on the market for a mere $3m; for no-one to have purchased her she must need a heck of a lot of work aboard.

I had wondered the same thing but the logos are different and so is the colour on the hull etc.

The Durban one was mostly owned by SA rugby players and managed by 3 Cities Hotel group, I believe the 2nd one is Indian owned.

I reckon you could buy her for $2 million (they must be desparte by now) but you would need to spend another 5, then you would have a diant little ship albeit you dare not take her to sea in rough weather.

ahhh...yes I guess you're right she is a little small and bobbly for the deep seas! I think she would be best suited to sail from Seattle up the Inside Passage and explore B.C.'s West Coast and numerous smaller Islands and Inlets right up to Prince Rupert, she could do Coastal Adventure cruises, seeing sea life, going fishing off the stern, stopping at small villages along the coast, and cater to someone who wants a Real Piece of the Coast, as the little ship can go places no others can! For 2 million she is a steal of a deal, then if u have to spend another 5-6 to get her in ship shape, then thats good that means u can customize her the way you want! And make her the way you want her to be, then she could run seasonally and in the off season maybe do Charters! You could build all her rooms into mini suites and cater to adults only, and serve very good food and have someone a nature specialist on board each trip.

If you did mini suites you would have an occupancy of approx 80/90. The cabins at present would win awards for the smallest going especially the bunk bedded 4 berths, to change clothes you need to open the cabin door ! She still has quite a bit of the original greek artworks etc.

There is one due and she is supposed to be in it - rumours on the wharf is that they will take what they can get, no reserve. She has now been moved back to the fit out berths for viewing. Sorry do not have a link or know who is holding it but it is due shortly and I will be keeping an eye out.

I would love to see her cruising the west coast of the US. She seems like she could be good for that.
