I was so psyched to be find this vintage poster on ebay. I think it comes from Ken Schultz's estate. I just love it and can't wait to get it framed. Who can name all the ships depicted?

The white twin funnel ship is Home Line's ss Homeric and the other twin funnel ship is USL's ss America. Fantastic poster!

Homeric may be correct but, the US Lines ship has two words on it's bow,...which means it can only be the SSUS. The graphic certainly looks closer to that of America, but I guess the artist decided to use the SSUS name instead.

What's the verdict, Thad?

I think it's actually the Big U. If you look closely, it looks like there's two words on the bow, so that would make her the U. The artist, unfortunately, drew the funnels too close together, a bit small, and positioned a bit too far forward. But based on the name on the bow, I'd say it's the US.

It is supposed to be the United States. But yes the artist was a little off I think. The only ship I am not totally sure of is the one directly above the Queen Elizabeth. I have not yet received the poster from the auction house, so I have not seen it up close to read the name.

Nice poster.
Can anyone tell me the name of the grey ship at the bottom with the red funnel, she looks great, and I love the unique SS Oriana style stucture with the bridge at the top and midships.

Looks like the artist drew ss America and put the wrong name on it. The forecastle is from ss America as are the placement and smaller size of the funnels. Some of the ships are quite accurate while others were done w/a little artistic license. Still a fantastic poster!

The one in the bottom left corner is the Windsor Castle of Union Castle Line. Her similar fleetmate, Transvaal Castle, became the Festivale for Carnival back in the late 1970's

Windsor Castle

Transvaal Castle

Festivale

I always thought it was too bad that Carnival had not purchased both the Transvaal Castle (S.A. Vaal) and the Windsor Castle. I have read that Arison wanted both, but thought that Vaslov and Sitmar were trying to purchase the Windsor Castle, and they were friendly rivals, so he did not bid. Ted Arison was reportedly very disapointed when he found out that Latsis had actually been the one to buy the Windsor Castle. She would have made just as nice a cruise ship as the Festivale did.

Looks like the Anchor lines' Caledonia of 1947 or one of her earlier fleetmates the Cilicia or Circassia.

The white vessel just above WINDSOR CASTLE and ROTTERDAM (so the 4th from the bottom) is Messageries Maritimes' VIET-NAM, LAOS or CAMBODGE.

Imagine if there were still the "friendly rivals" tradition at Carnival....Carnival probably would not have made a last minute bid for P&O Princess
