Has anyone had a chance to see Maxtone-Graham's new Normandie book? Looks like a great hard-cover coffee table book. Anyone read it or bought it yet?

I rec'd it for Christmas.

I haven't read it yet, but it is quite nice (but I've liked many of John Maxtone-Graham's books).

I bought it as an early Xmas present to myself onboard QM2 in November. It's a gorgeous book, written as only he can do with great photos of this awesome ship and excellent background information. I felt it was well worth the price and know I'll return to it over and over as I do with most of his books.

I'd definitely treat myself to this again f I didn't already have it!!

Cheers, Penny

I have it and it's quite good. There are, however, some pretty silly captioning errors. The most notable is a photo of what he says is NORMANDIE on the stocks and it's actually FRANCE of '62. Can't believe that one slipped by him.

The sharpness of the photos is worth the high price.

Now I have to order it! I don't know how many times I have re-read 'The Only Way To Cross' in the 35-years I've had it. It was quite a read for a 9-year-old when I first received it as a gift!!

Ok, I finally have the book in-hand and it is stunning some of the photography that's in this book. I didn't know they had super wide-angle lenses back in the 30's. Some of the images looked like they could have been taken today with modern equipment...only black & white. I thought I've seen every Normandie photo....this book has a ton a new images that I've not seen before. Linerguy....I noticed that mislabeled photo of France...that's a surprise. It's a classic Maxtone-Graham book that's very readable with stunning photography and quality. He says Normandie is his favorite ship. For anyone who loves the old liners...particularly the Normandie....you have to get this book.

Can you not buy from .com? I occasionally purchase books from amazon.de when .co.uk doesn't have what I'm looking for. The postage is a little bit as overseas, but not enough to worry over.

Pam

Jeff:

The book is on AMAZON.ca: is here http://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/701-5088499-0703560?url=search-alia s%3Daps&field-keywords=normandie

However, as usual, the CDN price is higher than the US - EVEN though our dollar is hovering aorund parity with the greenback. I think we should just have a friend in the States buy it for us and mail/ bring i to us next time they visit.

I will get it soon just not immediately - should be good.

Russ,

I noticed this error too, and I mentioned it to Mr. Maxtone-Graham and he said it was indeed an error and it will be corrected when they print the next edition.

Yes, he's pretty open to comments and corrections. In "Liners to the Sun" he corrected a slew of mistakes people had written in regarding "The Only Way To Cross".

Great guy.

I just received the book today. There are so many pictures that I have never saw before! The only criticism that I have (besides the mislabeled picture) is the over use of sepia tones in the book. I would rather have the pictures done in regular black and white. Other then that the book is a treasure!

Say, has there been any word on a new France/Norway book he was supposedly just commissioned to write as of last year?
