I just got some ong lost pictures back of my last cruise aboard the RE. What would be her final cruise before Solas 2010 if she sailed til that date? I wonder what Imperial Majasty has in mind for her replacement? Maybe another cheap going out of business sale like they got with Regal Empress? Good Luck that last find was a steal.

The new SOLAS regulations will come into effect in October 2010. So she has at most slightly more than two years to go.

I understand that FINNJET was considered a replacement for her, but obviously that is not going to happen now.

IMHO the logical choice would be one of the '70s "wedge" ships, but I am not aware of any that are available right now.

A large ferry could also work, I guess (as FINNJET was).

Maybe since she was just refurbished they are going to ride her out til the very end.I plan a bon voyage cruise on her in jan 2009 maybe I should be thinking jan 2010? I can only get off in the winter months. Hope they don't just pull her out from under me like they did with their last ship we need a god bye party.

Im thinking if one of the ex NCL or RCCL ships are available then maybe they could be a replacement for her! But a Really Good Replacement if shes still around would be the Oceanic if she can be upgraded to SOLAS!

I think OCEANIC is very nearly fully compliant with the upcoming SOLAS regulations, or if not, there is only a tiny bit of work to be done.

I hadn't thought of her, but I think she might be a very good replacement. She is extremely fuel-efficient for a steam turbine ship, and these cruises don't go far anyway.

I do not think Oceanic would be a good idea/suitable for IM. She needs a specialised engine room crew which could be hard to come by for IM. Also she may well be subjected to additional scrutiny by inspectors, which may cause a lot of hassle as such inspectors probably don't know anything about steam plants apart from reading a book and knowing what happened with Norway; you can see her being refused permission to sail just too many times with "problems" that are not there.

Of course I also wish her to remian this side of the pond where there is more chance of seeing her

For Pam and the others who have sailed Oceanic lately, what is her decor like now? Does anything remain from her days with Homes Lines?

The only original artwork seems to be the bas-relief sculptures on the stairwell landings--those images of famous historical personages and world landmarks. You would recognize the Lido pool area from Home Lines days, but of course there was no artwork there. Pretty much any other public areas were greatly changed during the '80s under Premier's ownership, and the ship still looks largely as it did then.

Hi

One cruise ship that appears to have vanished but might be for sale is the ' New Flamenco ' which was on a charter to Noumea as an accommodation ship.

Thanks Rich. I always thought Oceanic had a good lay-out and I hope they didn't mess with that. On most decks it was very easy to find your way. Are there still some designated singles?

I don't think she has any singles - I'm not even sure she has any doubles any more to be honest! Most of the cabins are at least triples, with many quads and even quints (yes, quints), a legacy of the Big Red Boat years.

Sure the Oceanic may be steam powered which really is not a big problem if they use a ship management company which is familiar with steam ships..and for the short cruises Imperial Majesty sails she should have no issue at all! however does she have stabilizers and does she need a tug to dock her. I really dont know any other ship that would be suitable for IM when the Regal Empress is done. But Im thinkin they may want an older ship cause they wouldnt be able to afford anything newer!

I guess there is no way they would ever make her solas complant?ANd I thought that the shrt trips Norway was making help in her demise with heating and cooling the boiler. The Flamco loos like a real great ship that may suit them but woulded you think that around solas 2010 these ships may become over priced? The Malday Moon has been sitting for years I wonder if she is 2010 compliant?Diesels?
