The word is that a Travel Agency is working to sponsor a re-creation of a Prohibition Cruise this fall aboard a classic older ship. Participants will dress in historic clothes and play the parts of characters from 1929 for the duration of the cruise. I'll provide more info as it becomes available.

A "Prohibition" cruise sounds like fun--there will be more liquor consumed than on a fun-ship party cruise!

Not necessarily MORE liquor -- but participants will be able to order Specialty Drinks from a Prohibition era menu that will not be available to the regular passengers. Drinks with colorful names like Damn the Weather and Devil's Cocktail.

Will they also have machine-gun toting bootleggers and axe-wielding G-Men to add to the realism?

Not sure about the guns yet. Evidently maritime law prohibits cap guns but not squirt guns. Possibly cap guns with no caps.

If the DELTA QUEEN is still operating next year, she would be the perfect boat for such a cruise. She was running during Prohibition, and saw her share of jelly beans and flappers sneaking away for a night's journey to Sacramento or San Francisco.

The Delta Queen is a marvelous boat. I truly hope the Save The Queen campaign manages to rescue her.

The Prohibition Cruise is slated for Regal Empress, which also has wood decks, brass fittings, and hardwood paneling. Like the Delta Queen, she is under fire by the Coast Guard fire regulations.

I'm sure there'd have to be a murder mystery or two in there somewhere.
