I love it!

It reminds me of the SS United States/Le France with wood and some whimsy.

1929-1966 is my favorite period of ship interiors.

Here is a house of a similar time and genre

Yes, even the etched glass panels around the ballroom dance floor are reminiscent of Big U and the AMERICA.

WOW! I am altering the course settings on my time machine and will be off to the Bremen as soon as I brush up on my German. Will it be possible to combine this journey with a Westbound crossing to attend the 1964 NYC World's Fair?

I was on the Bremen once, 1971 or '72, with a German friend from New Rochelle, NY. It was a great cruise. As I think back, it was very traditional and seemed very deluxe to me. The striped furniture was popular on German ships of the time. I remember it also on the Hamburg. HAL's Statendam ['57] also had striped furniture in its original decor. Thanks for sharing those pictures. I had forgotten how comfy a ship she was.

Rewind

year 1971 St Thomas Virgin Islands

As an 11yo I knew she was something special.

She was there tendered near Queen Anna Maria-which I was sailing, Federico C in port, and the Michelangelo and Leo Da Vinci all next to QAM. I was infatuatuated with the Bremen and a woman who was on her said to me " if you jog the promenade deck 10 times it is a mile" That was her total insight to the ship.
She today 40 years later would have been on the Carnival Colostomy or the Norwegian Dranamine.

I have a pic of the Bremen my Dad took on 35mm slide.

Sorry, Rex, I can not remember the dining room....or rooms. Our cabin was spacious and had a tub bath as I remember. We had a stormy day returning to NYC and I remember she "rode" well. As I said earlier, she seemed, from my young eyes, to be a bit formal and traditional. Excellent food stands out in my memory.

Again with the stripes? LOL. Her interiors were actually quite attractive, although the ceilings seem a tad on the low side - something I recall reading about in Fifty Famous Liners 2 during her wartime trooping days.

Was there a refit at some point? Some of those look period-correct to 1959, but some of the paneling in the tourist class ballroom, and especially the lava-lampish magenta-on-black carpet in the tourist class dining room, look very late '60s psych-mod.

The dining room photo was taken in 1971--the other photos date from 1959/1960.

Thanks for posting these pics, Linerrich. I shudder to think what happened to them after she went over to Chandris. I'm also at a loss as to why they never replaced those inept turbines with diesels either - definitely would have extended her life.

Love the interior pictures. The Bremen was a very handsome Liner here looks improved after the Germans rebuild here. They did an amazing job as they did with the Hanseatic.

Here a picture of Statendam observation lounge with similar style decor.

Greetings Ben.

Sitting room of a First Class stateroom on BREMEN. More stripes, again, typical of German and Dutch liners of the '50s:
