Hi everyone, in windy conditions, here is QE2 departing Southampton. This scene, for us local's is very familiar, and still hard to believe that it will be history come November this year...

Lovely indeed. It is really hard to believe such scenes will no longer be there in a few months. Today's cruise ships just can't cut the same elegant picture.

You're absolutely correct, Pam. We've known her so long now, it is so difficult to imagine she'll be gone....at least not the way of France/Norway, and Nieuw Amsterdam.

This makes me sad! I'm just glad that I might get the chance to sail on her before she leaves.

Yes, excellent images!

I certainly plan to go and see her in Dubai one day. The destination is becoming increasingly popular with Brits and many of the new buildings and new devlopments are going to be amazing.

Just back from a 10-days mediterranean cruise. What an experience! Very, very hard to leave this ship... She's magnificent, looks in excellent shape... She could have sailed 10 more years! Really, I don't get it... Do they really think QV can compare?

Andrew- great shots , I take it you must be whizzing about on a rib?
After seeing QE2 on a regular basis here in Southampton for the last 20 odd years it will be sad when she is gone for good. As said she still looks good for another 10 years.

These are superb photographs! Thank you.

I'll be back aboard QE2 for the final cruise tomorrow - I always wanted to sail out of Southampton so I am very happy to have finally made this a reality.

All taken from land!
The first shot was from the Marina, and the others were from Calshot.
Any more info on locations, let me know.

Read in our local Southern Echo ( Friday ) that they plan to take the funnel off and put it quayside to use as some sort of office/reception area in Dubai. Makes me think it is sometimes better sadly to scrap old ships.

Why don't they build a replica to use quayside? What plans have they for the ship if the funnel is removed?

The story is that they are going to build a seven story glass fronted funnel with apartments inside. Better to build a whole replica ship.

Superb shots, Noel. You had good weather as well. I see on the site it's back to La Rochelle for the next one after being changed to Le Verdon. Very confusing.

Bonjour Patsy ,
Yes , it was very confusing with the canceled port of : " La Rochelle " !
But , with : Le Verdon ; you are very , very near to the Famous Vineyards of Bordeaux ( Médoc , Chateaux Petrus , Chateaux Laffite etc ... ) .

Two of my best friends (2 Shiplovers ) was in : La Pallice ( the port of La Rochelle ) at 6.00am and " wait " of the arrival of QE2 ...
But on 8.00am , QE2 was not here !!! My friends go to the Marina of La Rochelle , and recieve " the news " : QE2 is today in : Le Verdon !!!

And after a 200kilometers " run " they came to : Le Verdon !

Here my 2 friends ( i have the tshirt with " my " ship the : s/s NORWAY ) . The big guy is " Oulala " and on the right is : Philippe Conquer , the autor of the book : 303 ( over : s/s NORMANDIE . s/s FRANCE and s/s NORWAY ) .
My friends make the " last " Westbound with QE2 .

Noel
