She looks great, but I still like the blue/white colours.

Just seeing pictures of her brings back so many memories of the wonderful times my late husband and I spent sailing on her. She will always be my favourite ship. I was even Mrs. Rotterdam on one of the cruises.

Great pics. I wonder how the interior is progressing. I also wonder just how different she will be inside, what changes have been made overall for her new role(s).

If you ever sailed on her, I am afraid you will not recognise most of the interiors.

Last week, on New Year's reception of De Lijn, I was told that all cabins on Maindeck forward will be transformed into business units (offices).
All crewcabins in the foreship also disappeared and are transformed into business units.

Most recognisable will be the public areas on Promenade deck and Upper Promedade Deck.

The two diningrooms will no longer serve as diningrooms, but are transformed into conferencerooms.

Most of the galley-equipment was allready removed in Gibraltar.

I am wondering if the ship will give me the same feeling as when I sailed on her in 1959/60 or when I saw her back in 2004 when she arrived in Gibraltar.
During my visit in Wilhelmshaven in 2007 the areas we visited were stripped to the bare steel.

I was able to spend quite a bit of time on her, was friends with the 3rd engineer at the time so got to see so much of the ship when she called in Victoria. I am not surprised that she will be different..she has to be to function in her new role. Wonder what room(s) they will use for dining if not the two dining rooms.

The Lido-restaurant, the Clubroom (ex casino), the Ritz-Carlton (for special occasions) and the Ocean Bar.

We all have our all-time favorite liners, and I find the exterior of Rotterdam most pleasing.

Too bad about the dining rooms being converted, but better that than the alternatives.

Here is a question for our Netherlands friends -- let's pretend I come to Netherlands next summer and leave the train at the Rotterdam station. How far is it to SS Rotterdam? Is there a bus, or can I walk? (Walking 3 or 4 km is OK by me).

Todd,

If you fly into Amsterdam Schipol there is an express train to Rotterdam: the city.

The SS Rotterdam is walking distance from the Central Station. Rotterdam's Central Station was built about the time of SS Rotterdam and you will notice some of the same design cues.

There are many trams at the station that are a short trip if you do not feel like walking.

I recommend the Hotel New York which used to be HAL world headquarters. There is much HAL memorobila there.

The Maritime Museum is a delight and take a tour of the Bufel.

The Blaakse Bos is worth a visit. The Witte de Withstraat is very much like San Francisco

From Central Station, you take the metro till station Rijnhaven. From there it is a walk of about 10 to 15 minutes along the Maashaven.

Be aware that you cannot use the 'strippenkaart' anymore in the metro as per 29 January 2009 !

Near Central Station is an OV-building where you can buy 'throw away' chipcards. Just tell the people at the desk where you want to go and they will sell you the right ticket.

Not far from the s.s. Rotterdam you can take a watertaxi to the northbank of the river to visit the Euromast.

Please be aware the openingdate is still not set.

At the rate of progress, the SS Rotterdam should be open for business around the summer season.

You cannot walk. Taking the

Take the Metro to station Rijnhaven. If you don't want to walk, take bus 77 to Katendrechtse Hoofd ask the driver it's the last stop. From there it's a short distance 5 minutes. Faced to the river the Rotterdam is on you're left hand

If you stay in Rotterdam just ask the route in you're hotel they cane help you. And with a bit of luck she's open fore public by then.

Or let me know and we cane meat.

Greetings Ben.

Unfortunately Central Station is no longer. They demolished it last year and are in the process of building a brand new Central Station.

Aad

PS Yesterday we received green light for our marriage aboard ss Rotterdam in September 2009. We got guarantee she'll be open and fully functional then.
