I saw this in the digital newsletter of Ocean & Cruise news:

Worldwide finance problems are creating problems, indeed big problems, throughout the international maritime industries. Even the hotel-museum ship Rotterdam, due to open in her homeport next summer, is now short of as much as $35 million in further refit and safety costs. So, from all reports, the 1959-ship will not now reopen as planned, but instead endure further delays.

I understand Aad, but actually there was no intended opening date. Somewhere before the summer, and that could be any date. But that is not give you and Nicoline (please give here my groetjes) comfort.

2 days ago I receive am invitation to become voluntary host on the Rotterdam. So it's all contradiction.

Once again we must wait and see.......

Greetings Ben.

Aad, it's a 'wet finger' message !

Just like today as the AEX index came below 200 points. Everyone is now upset, but quoting the words of Wouter Bos: This really is not the end of the world.
All values have now come to the real value.

Did you see any word of this in the Dutch newspaper ? ?
And believe me, mr. Paulus Jansen of the SP sits on it like a hawk.
http://paulusjansen.sp.nl/weblog/

Oh Maasdam, I think they are really in a desperate need of volunteers, as I received that request three times

Paul Kitsz gave us a guarantee that the ship would be open in September and you guys are right there is no news in the newspaper or so but it feels like walking on a rope while you are blindfolded. We have to arrange a wedding and everybody on the ship says it is ok but we give you 99.9 % guarantee.

We say ok we do it but there is that small nasty voice saying "what if"? And now I read this message by Bill Miller and I think oh no here we go again. More delays? In a few weeks we come to a point of no return. We have to start making arrangements and order this and that.

I shall be happy when we are on board in September and all is working as we arranged it. Then I will yell YES I DO!

I also go the same invitation.

Aad

A friend of mine is arriving on Rotterdam VI on 23 August and has booked two nights on the old Rotterdam.
Guaranteed by the hotel !

They don't give an exact opening date yet, but will anounce the date three months ahead.

Well Guys,
I have thrown in the towel about saving this ship or that ship. First, the SS Norway and the SS Topaz went to the breakers. Now, for 2009, it's the Regal Empress on its way to join the Maxim Gorkiy. This makes me so upset because I was hoping to see these ships join the SS Rotterdam in the static attraction category. But, now, there is nothing left to save.

Hope and pray that the SS Rotterdam is never removed from Holland and dumped at Alang. Mr. Metha would love to get his hands on her.

Did you actually ever pick up 'the towel' you are 'throwing' now? You blame other people but what did YOU actually DO to save these ships? It would be interesting to hear more about that giving your endless ranting, complaining and your rather presumptuous statement posted in this thread.

Reed the whole topic, this news was just another rumor. The owners never have made this statement. Only Miller who is gambling with his good name.

Happy you thrown the towel finally that big thick wall is gone.
