Hey,

While she's up there near Dutch Harbor, maybe she can get in on the "Deadliest Catch" as a large crab vessel....

Latest hazard Oceanic faces is a typhoon which will transit the Yokohama/Tokyo area in a northwest direction just off the coast exactly the same time as Oceanic aproaches in a southeast direction.

I hope everyone in the area is safe, these are 2 very nasty storms. Some dramatic footage of waters causing a several story hotel to collapse can be seen here. Oceanic will have to skirt the storm and maybe stalling waiting to see which way it is going to go?

On August 9th, Oceanic passed off Kuril Islands, East of Ostrov Kunasir and approaching off Sanriku. Miyako, on the Sanriku Coast, is located in the center of Rikuchu Coast National Park in Iwate Prefecture on the eastern-most coast of Honshu, Japan's main island.

Oceanic is probably sailed between off Sanriku and off Shioya Zaki now.

She is due to pass by Nojima Zaki in the very early hours of tomorrow morning.
Nojima Zaki is located in Minamiboso City at the southernmost Cape in Chiba Prefecture.

At Noon (one hour ago), Typhoon is off Nojima Zaki and has tracked Eastward.

Beautiful to see her berthed across from MV HIKAWA MARU. Thanks for sharing the photos!

I was very happy and a little sad to see OCEANIC in Vancouver last month. I hope Peaceboat can stick it out with her to get things back up to snuff. She seemed much the worse for wear and some of that incredibly unattractive Premier era decor has now begun to look especially shabby. She really needs a good mechanical and cosmetic refit. The bones are there. She has proven herself to be a ship that succeeds but she really needs some TLC.

Thanks you for the fantastic Syteamer hunt and photos!
It's nice to see so much interest on the very last large ocean-going steamship and such quality research.
What is Oceanic next trip?

She is scheduled to sail on her next Peace Boat voyage on the 26th August 2009.

The Yokohama port movements is showing her as going to Yura on the 13th August, which is where there is the Mitsui shipyard.

She is shown as returning to Yokohama on the 24th August via Kobe.
