I went to Titanic The Artifacts Exhibition in St Paul, Minnesota. They had a two-ton section of the Titanic's hull on display! It was very interesting to wander through the exhibits and see some of the artifacts that were brought up from the bottom of the Atlantic. What was really interesting is they also had artifacts from the Carpathia which was torpedoed during WWI. I interviewed the Director of Education for the Titanic traveling exhibit on Cruising Authority...check out the interview and see a photo album of the artifacts and a video I made from the Exhibition. Has anyone else been to one of these exhibitions?

I've been to a couple of different travelling exhibitions of TITANIC artifacts, one in St. Petersburg (FL) and one in Miami, both several years ago. There are also a number of static exhibitions that one can visit.

I went to the one in St. Petersburg not long after TITANIC came out in the theatres...it was very impressive. What struck me was the huge wall with the list of names. I became more close to the disaster than any book or movie could ever place me.

It came to London a few years ago. I though that it was pretty good.

The Titanic Exhibit finally made it to New York Times Square....so in essence, Titanic finally made it to New York...or at least bits and pieces of her.

I saw this when it was in LA. You weren't supposed to touch the large piece of Titanics hull but I did anyway.

I visited the one in Orlando just north of WDW.

http://www.titanictheexperience.com/

It had wonderful full scale mock-ups that you walked thru of various rooms, hallways, the Grand Staircase (supposedly from the movie), and an 'outdoor' promenade mockup complete with pumped in freezing cold air. At the end you touched the 'iceberg' to see if you could hold your hands on there for 3-5 minutes. Nope, couldn't do it!

Here are some pics I took when I visited:

Barry:

The exhibit is in St. Paul, not Minneapolis.
Some of us are a little sensitive. St. Paul always gets second billing.
Was the exhibit mostly pictures, or are there things I can't see in a book? I've been meaning to go, but haven't had time yet.

Thanks.

Jack, You're right...sorry, I guess I was being lazy and saying Minneapolis in general terms....

The exhibit is worth seeing, there's a two ton piece of the hull, the cherub from the staircase was really interesting to see close-up. It was really unique to see artifacts from the Carpathia. The big steel door was really cool too, and it still had the glass intact. I wasn't disappointed.

Again, sorry about the Minneapolis thing.

Barry

I went to the NYC exhibit that is on till early 2010. It is a fraction of the items and a lot less than what you see in the great photos posted here.

Some of the items are badly arranged. For example they have a base from a table from the smoking room but the picture of the matching space is on the other side of the room.

Also it is only a small selection of the artifacts I guess because they have so many exhibitions going in different places.

The cost is high -- they don't tell you that discounts for things like AAA are available unless you ask -- and they push an audio tour which is a waste of money in my opinion. You get as much out of the exhibit by just reading the signs and save $5.

And then when you get to the grand staircase a photographs pops out to take you picture for the low low cost of .....

Go and enjoy but be warned of the short comings.

Looks just like an "R" ship inside.

Those who have sailed on the R ships during their first life or in the subsequent Oceania/Azmara/Princess deployment would say "not really."

Any similarities were entirely coincidental though because Renaissance built the R ships right after the Titanic movie and wanted to capitalize of that design and excitement.

I saw TITANIC in Philadelphia and enjoyed it. Next time it is the White Swan hotel in the UK which has Olympic's original fittings.

I was joking.

But I have been on an R ship and I know what they look like inside.

Indeed they did, but that would make them intentional - the very opposite of coincidental.
