Hello!!

I used ti oist her about 2 years sgo and then I got sick with a disease called Vasculitis. It gave me a stroke and damages my vision.
I always thought the ANCERVILLE was a nice ship, nicer than the RENNAISANCE IMO! In all the years I have been interested in cruise ships I have never seen any deck plans. Dies anyone have some to post? Thanks
TomS

My ANCERVILLE plans are too large to scan and post here, but I do have some small deck plans from when the ship was MINGHUA, very little-changed from her earlier days:

This is how they were printed, but obviously the Boat Deck would be the highest deck shown, not in the middle!

Hello!!!

T%hanks for the deck plans of the ANCERVILLE. When did Paquet sell her to the Chinese? That is about how I thought her decks went, just like the WORLD RENAISSANCE in many ways. The ANCERVILLE was 2000 GRT bigger though.

ANCERVILLE entered service in 1962 (note her all-outside cabins.) She was sold to the Chinese in 1973, becoming MINGHUA. Scrapped in 1991.

Hi Rich,

Actually, she is in Shekou, China, an hour or so ferry's ride from Hong Kong. She is landlocked and looks like an apparition from "Close Encounters" with reclaimed land on all sides, now occupied by a country club and town square. Unfortunately, a recent overhaul has destroyed her vintage look with fake, oversized windows. I visited her in 2000 when she was closed and partially gutted. At the time, it looked like she would be scrapped. Used old ANCERVILLE brochures to get on board and communicated with her watchman with hand signals.

Best,

Peter

Someone tell me how and I could post the Ancerville version

While she did have outside cabins she also had lots without bathrooms.

Mmm, she is quite similar to RENAISSANCE in many ways. (A ship I would like to see return to service, but it seems unlikely.)

It is interesting that Paquet sold off ANCERVILLE and RENAISSANCE but retained the considerably older JEAN MERMOZ.

The all-outside-cabins-but-many-without-facilities reminds me a lot of the IVAN FRANKO-class ships, though they are not otherwise similar. All this certainly debunks the common claim that ROYAL PRINCESS was the first big ship with all-outside cabins (not that ANCERVILLE was either).

Ancerville was more ferry-like. She was not fitted to the same level of luxury or nearly as modern as the Renaissance. Not only the small cabins and the lack of private bathrooms but also the general leveo if fittings. She was more designed as a running mate/replacement for the Cesare.

Renaissance was fitted out very modern .... I still am fascinated 30 plus years later by the original dining room and lighting. Paquet intended the Renaissance to cruise while the Ancerville was more old school.

The Mermoz even after her refit was much more old school and I think more popular with Paquet's passengers.

Hi!!

I did,nt know I would start up all of this conversation on the ANCERVILLE. That is an interesting ship IMO. Was she only used as a cruise ship or what? Where did she sail -Mediterranean,Caribbean,South America? Why did Paquet sell her to the Chinese, did they make a good offer or what?

ANCERVILLE did make cruises to the Canary Islands and such (in fact she was the main rescue ship when the FULVIA burned out there in 1970.) But she was designed for a 3-class service between Marseille and Dakar, and was not very plush on board, as explained by a previous post.

To post images in the forum, the image(s) first need to be on a server connected to the Internet. You can post to our Photo Gallery here or you can use any number of free photo hosting sites. Once you have uploaded an image to a server, all you have to do is post a link to that image in your post.

More info about how to do this is here.

I am not familiar with her interiors but it certainly makes sense given her intended service.

Her GA is incredibly similar to that of RENAISSANCE though.

Indeed, given that she was very modern and clearly intended for cruising it has always seemed odd to me that Paquet spent the money to convert the very traditional MERMOZ to a cruise ship and then shortly after that, sold RENAISSANCE. But I know very little about Paquet so I don't know what motivated this.

Thanks for sharing your pics. She seems to be well taken care of. (At least at the time the pictures were taken.) The over-sized windows are unfortunate, but not as bad as I thought they would be.
Thanks again and a "thank you" to your Dad, as well.

Michael
