Now, my other favorite, the IVORY (ex AUSONIA) will be joining REGAL EMPRESS on the beach. Not unexpected but very sad, nonetheless. Lloyd's List says she went for a mere $2 million USD.

NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but, as you say, very expected indeed.

By the way, is her lay-up "neighbour" THE EMERALD coming back into service this year?

Jeff, as built, she was perfect to look at but as rebuilt, she was as near perfect in function and layout as any vintage ship could get. Fantastic forward observation deck, full wrap-around boat deck, nice passenger flow and large cabins, many with their gorgeous woodwork intact. I really enjoyed my three cruises in her and likened her to a Med version of REGAL EMPRESS. Ironically, her Romanian entertainment staff was often the same as REGAL E's, too.

I believe THE EMERALD has at least one season left but this can always change with Louis.

No news is good news and they claim she will be SOLAS compliant. However, if they do keep the old girl around, she needs a serious refit soon....

According to both AISLive and Vesseltracker.com, she has been registered in Basseterre, St. Kitts, not St. Helena.

St. Helena makes no sense at all. I don't think there even is a St. Helena ship register separate from the British register.

It is highly doubtful that the former Ausonia, or any other ship for that matter, is registered in St. Helena. If St Helena actually did have a ship's registry, then the RMS St. Helena would almost certianly on it. However, the "RMS", as she is referred to by the inhabitants of the island, is registered in the UK. (Source: http://www.rms-st-helena.com )

"St Helena is a member of the British Red Ensign Group and operate as a Category Two Red Ensign (British) Registry, which can register ships of up to 150 gross tons (GRT) and pleasure vessels, that is, those not operated commercially, of up to 400 GRT. Pleasure vessels, by definition, refer to ships used for sport or pleasure, which are not operated commercially." from here.

So IVORY cannot be registered there. Digital Seas was showing it several days ago, but appears someone has input the info incorrectly. Perhaps St Helena & St Kitts are next to each other on a 'drop down list' so would be easy to get the wrong one.

------------------
Digital Seas has an awful lot of ships showing as registered in St Helena, of which there are many I can see just with a quick glance that are not; the Zhen Hua vessels, Dalmacija, Apollon .... something is very wrong with their listings.

She is not announced for the moment for immediate beaching at Alang by Exim India (but it's outdated).

She has to receive first an inspection and a clearance to be beached. Beginning of march or after the 13Th.

It is very interesting how you get such up to date information about ships being beached when you say you are in Paris.

You even know what ship was on the plot before the arrival of Winner 5 !

On the ss Maritime website it is thought that you are based in India, not Paris, which would account for all this indirect support for the classifications held by the breakers at Alang and also knowing so much information about the breakers plots at Alang !

Even if he is who cares? I don't see the harm in increased amounts of information. It appears SS Maritime requires some sort of conspiracy involved in any ship it tracks

No harm in any sort of information.

With these posts there does seem to be a lot of info being published on an increase in the safety aspects of the ship breaking work at Alang, and all from one source !

Seems funny it has not happened before !

So there is a person that knows someone at Alang !

Maybe he is one of the owners of a breakers yard !

Either way it is good that someone is taking the time to update us all on what is going on at the breakers yards !

Is Mr Goossens going to try to broker a deal to save the ship ? !

If you look my posting IP, I'm clearly located in Paris suburb. But Exim-news is also an accurate source of information where vessel arrival are noticed every day with plot scheduled for beaching and the final plot when the ship is physically beached.

http://www.exim-india.com/newsletter/vesselmove/charts/alang-arrived.htm

http://www.exim-india.com/newsletter/vesselmove/charts/alang-shortly.htm

And you see that winner 5 has been beached during the night (for me) at plot 103.

Your friend Goossens has only not the right sources.
Who owns the plot 103:

http://www.ashitshipping.com/alang3.htm

This guy see conspiracy everywhere. He is definitively out of the maritime history, he is only doing a self promoting campaign.

Hello

It was correct. I have describe in my previous post how I collect informations, but I have also contact - as Peter Knego - from Alang. Without doing business with Alang in any case.

The strategic one step-back from R. Goossens is not the first one. He went to far, writes inaccurate and crude posting (remember the "doctored photographs" of Blue Lady bow cutting) and then he find a trick to justify what it is not able to be justified. No he states he is not an expert in ISO standards; well I have seen it!

But when you are working, writing so direct sentences about Alang ship-breaking industry, you have just to know a little what ISO standards means. When a certification group gives an ISO 30 000, you can trust me that the receiver was and is compliant at the time of the certification and that he will be periodically controlled. It's the same for ISO9001/14001. Even in India !!!! In ISO you have "I" for international...

Or this man has no news at all and pick information from the web (where a lot a voluntary inaccurate or outdated writing, photographs are published) or his only source is BAN. And BAN India is a good idea, but an idealist idea. I respect Gopal Krishna work, but he is not objective, realistic and he is doing a melting pot between the worst plots and plots that are compliant with international standards (ISO).

If you know something about shipping industry, you have to know that the removal of all asbestos could compromise the safety of the vessel. Where India is responsible, it was to sign the Basel act. Because they need metal and they have cheap workers. Now they will have problem with every ship with asbestos, PCB even if some (not all) plot have solution to handle these toxics. And the worst ship will finish in countries that are not Basel signatory ...
